#nationalcaregiversmonth Part of caregiving around the clock for us is monthly blood transfusions. It's a 2-day process. We go the the hospital the day before to get labs drawn so they can collect his blood in order to find a match and to capture his blood count to determine if he needs the transfusion. Then we go back to the hospital the next day for the actual transfusion that lasts about 4-5 hours depending on how much blood he needs. While we are there, I'm talking with doctors about his care plan, discussing what's working, what's not, do we need to add or remove anything from his care etc... PSA: DONATE BLOOD if you can, it benefits my son and many others whose livelihood depends on it.
