Born in Texas in 1948 Carmen Lomas Garza came from a bilingual Chicano background who spoke both English and Spanish. She knew she wanted to become an artist at age 8 when she would see her mom painting “tablas” for the card game “loteria”.After high school, Carmen managed to earn three art degrees from Texas A&M University, Juarez-Lincon Graduate School, and San Francisco State University. Being involved in the Chicano Movement Carmen used her art to tell stories/teach about her culture.
