I got diagnosed with IBS-D in July. My gastroentologist only told me to take Metamucil. That's it! Nothing about diet changes,even after I questioned him. Should I search for a new doctor? How long did it take you to get the help you needed?
You could try another doctor!
Maybe he was right and there’s not much you can do in your case, or maybe he’s totally wrong and there’s a lot more you could do. Can’t hurt to get a second opinion.
You can also request to have more tests done or ask to try out some different medications (and see what the doctor replies). If he’s not taking your requests, try another doctor!
It’s understandable that he’s not going to prescribe you a bunch of medications that he doesn’t think you need, but if having the tests come back negative makes you more comfortable, he should at least be willing to run the tests for you.
You could also try looking up some IBS diets yourself and seeing if those help you personally.
