I want to do a fun little thing this year where every day this month before Eurovision's Grand Final, I'll post a National Final song that didn't make it to the contest this year. Because my goodness, it's been WILD and there were so many songs this year that deserve attention.
Today's song is Semafoare by Bacho & CARNIVAL BRAIN, from Moldova! This one is... a tragedy, truly. Moldova held their weird little live audition show, as per usual, and the jury picked twelve acts to participate in Etapa Națională's final, as per usual... AND THEN THEY CANCELED THEIR PARTICIPATION. They were genuinely like "so every song sucked this year we'd rather pay the EBU a fine and try again next year kthxbye". Which is RUDE AS HELL and SUCKS. The above act, which features founding member and former violinist of SunStroke Project, was the favorite to win the selection, and tried to appeal to the Moldovan broadcaster to no avail. I hope they try again next year, this could have gone far (a recent performance of the song has been absolute FIRE). Moldova will be missed this year for sure.
