I meet you every night where the moon sets fire to the sea; there, in that precise place, insistent metaphor that my mind draws from your mouth, I find you every night, and even if you do not see me, I see you, because the sea is not only your name, the sea is much more: you are the sea, the immense sea that separates and unites us.
I had a nice morning photographing the band Carnival Moon on Ward's Island - snowy winter magic paradise - this morning.
Myself and two other writers made some suggestions on who you might want to see at NXNE, which happens next week.
Here are our suggestions.
Also check out NXNE's website for full schedule, how you can get wristbands, etc.
You know how there's this sassy harpist in the first season of Gilmore Girls. (No clue what I mean- check the link.) Well the reason why I bring her up is that, I wanted to share the latest video from Carnival Moon.
Carnival Moon features Elaine Kelly on Harp/Vocals, Dave Scanlon on Violin/Vocals and a whole cast of some of the best musicians in the city.
Elaine is a staple in the Toronto music scene lending her skills to a variety of projects in the time that I have known her. This talented musician is inspiration for those who are afraid to take up a challenge only to succeed by leaps and bounds.
One can go so far to make direct comparisons between Carnival Moon and Joanna Newsom, a fairly well known vocalist/harpist. However Elaine's vocals have the tenderness of Joanna Newsom without being sickeningly sweet. Carnival moon brings this element of effortless etherealness which is completely breathtaking both live and recorded.
I heartily encourage you to check out the video and come to see them play live at the Static Zine Launch on Wednesday at The Rivoli with The Ruby Spirit and, Wazu, Also MUSIC TRIVIA.
You're going to come party with us in a big way, yeah?
RSVP!
