@michael-c-thomas-blog
I've been trying to avoid excessive fandom posting on this Tumblr. It is getting really, really, really hard with tonight's episode of The Flash.

Some quick thoughts on a bunch of upcoming/recent Nintendo games
Today I got to go to a media event where I demoed a whole bunch of upcoming games and a few that were just released. Here is what I played and what I thought of it:
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
This is the title everyone will care about so I'll get it out of the way first — it's great. It brings back some old stages (like Hyrule Temple and Luigi's Mansion) and brings in new ones like Palutena's Temple and Wii Fit Studio. The game can accommodate eight players on select stages, and I played an eight-player match in Palutena's Temple. It was mind-blowing. Can you imagine using Ness' final smash in getting seven KOs at once?
Interestingly, it's also the first game that will incorporate the amiibo, which is hard to explain in a nutshell. But basically it's a device that you tap on a Wii U gamepad and inputs a computer-controlled character that learns as you fight it. So if you're someone who blocks and parries a lot, it'll learn to do that. If you're a frequent smasher, it'll learn. The more different styles of play it learns, the harder it gets to beat. Then you can save the new data back onto your device, and bring said device to any Wii U.
Pokemon Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphire
This was a very, very brief demo so don't get too excited. Steven sent me on a brief quest to find a Skitty, In this demo I had a party consisting of Glalie and the all three fully-evolved starters, of course equipped with the appropriate items for Mega Evolution. Got to try Mega Glalie and I messed around with Mega Swampert too. Took down a couple of sailors, battled a Tropius, then found Skitty. The graphics are about the same as X & Y.
Kirby Fighters Deluxe (Kirby Triple Deluxe)
Apparently this has been out for a bit, and I tried one mode in which Kirby is thrust into a Super Smash Bros. type situation. I chose to do battle as Fighter Kirby and wreaked all kinds of havoc through six stages before getting bored of the rather repetitive gameplay. Had I had time I would have tried the main story mode, which I assume is more fun.
Sonic Boom (3DS)
A side-scrolling platform that makes me sad at the lack of good Sonic titles. There are too many buttons and actions to remember and it really takes away from the sheer joy of rolling around and collecting coins. It seemed like the level I tried was never going to end so I gave up. Pass on this one.
Virtual Console/Remixes
You probably already know about this, but with a selection of classic titles also comes some very strange remix games. I played one where Kirby had to inhale a bunch of eggs (while avoiding bombs) and another where Mario had to defeat an invisible Birdo. It took me approximately ten years to beat three Kirby enemies as Toad.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Didn't play this one but watched it happen. Seems like a very charming puzzle game a la Super Mario Galaxy, albeit with a character with no abilities like Mario (I don't even think poor Captain Toad can even jump). The demo has him taking on a lava dragon and it looks like a lot of fun.
Bayonetta
Holy. Fucking. Shit. I have heard about this game before and its slight controversy over its hypersexuality. But honestly? Playing an entire chapter (or as it's called in the game, Climax) has made me realize that I would buy a Wii U to play this. Bayonetta takes everything to an absolutely absurd level. Yes, as she does pulls certain moves her clothes come off, and yes, one of her final attacks has her completely naked for no discernible reason, but that's only a very small fraction of how totally fucking nuts this game is. She for no discernible reason can morph into a panther while on land and a serpent when under water. One of her combo moves is literally a giant stiletto crushing her enemies. She has butterfly wings for some reason. She opens doors by blowing kisses at them. And not to mention the enemies, with creepy faces on top of crazily-armoured beasts.
But best of all, Bayonetta just does not have time for shit. She nearly kills some guy who joins her on her quest (whatever that quest is exactly) and is exactly the kind of strong, female character this game deserves. No elaborate backstory is needed. She just kicks ass, no questions asked. Oh and funny enough, Hell is where you buy stuff. Yay commentary on capitalism!
Bayonetta feels like the lovechild of Final Fantasy and No More Heroes and I am 5000 per cent okay with that.

CHINA, HONG KONG : Pro-democracy protesters, including one carrying a shield from the “Captain America” comic book series stand their ground as they look out for the presence of rival protest groups next to a barricade on a road in Hong Kong on October 4, 2014. Hong Kong has been plunged into the worst political crisis since its 1997 handover as pro-democracy activists take over the streets following China’s refusal to grant citizens full universal suffrage.
