I don't really watch Luna clips (except when fucking Tony Hawk shows up) because I find the cutesy voice excessive/annoying, specially with a full grown adult doing it, but I think the whole "0 years old" thing is just a joke that started when she had debutted for less than a year. Matsuri on the other hand is even more disgusting than other people described and has even made other members uncomfortable due to her lack of common sense, but her shit is too normalized among the awful fanbase.
Hopefully my comments on that post didn’t cause you to catch flack or anything like that, but I was so utterly perplexed by what was going on.
I don’t hold any grudge against any fans of Hololive nor do I hold any grudge against most vtubers, I think Hololive fun and sweet, but there’s this subculture that I just can’t stand. Especially when they’re idols living on a gig economy, which has a very terrible implication in regards to their private life. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with their pursuits, but the whole industry goards these teenagers into forming a contract, which is not so different from the idol industry, and obstentially provides them with a better career.
Nevertheless, the issue I take with this whole shtick is that it enables this idea that this vtuber should be infantilized with many viewers sticking to parasocial relationships with this character. This is not to claim that viewers are pedos/lolis or anything like that, but the mere suggestion of being young and childish enables a very common issue in the entertainment industry within the Japanese market. The character is assumed to be a toddler (infant would be the correct term) in this case, but in terms of the design’s physiology, it is not, which does put up some red flags. I understand, the characters are kayfabing and sticking to their personas to make sure they live up to their viewers’ expectations as is with many aspects of the Idol culture and the various subcultures within. But I believe we have to take a step back and reevaluate the industry for what it is, to understand methodologies behind their business schemes, to consider its predatory recruitment system, and to assess the health and working conditions of each streamer.
