A surprise entry to this year's must watch movies is A Quiet Place starring Emily Blunt, co-starred, written and directed by her real life husband John Krasinski is a riveting horror film that totally justifies its title. It had me biting my nails more than once which alone will give you bang for buck. Apart from this, the film has got a highly underrated making through its neat Cinematography, atmospherics, and a potential Oscar nomination for its Sound. The attention to detail is amazing. Rarely does a film this original makes us think, root for its characters, experience their pains without even building up the tension like in usual horror films. It's a creature feature with a difference. All the characters did very well especially the star Emily Blunt (another feather in her cap), and Millicent Symonds who played the eldest child. John Krasinski makes a great debut into commercial cinema and he is here to stay. Don't ever miss this film in theaters. Watch it in Screens with good sound or you'll miss out a lot. A film that soars beyond all its contemporaries in terms of quality of production values like sound design, costumes, lighting, stunts and graphics. Rarely does one see a film so perfectly establishing its very purpose. It's a surprise that of all the actors, Dileep, an actor who is always criticised when it comes to doing quality films, is the one who carries the film on his shoulders all by himself. The film shows various shades of the actor who we are normally used to as a comedian or family actor. As the mysterious Kammaran Nambiar, he breaks more than one convention of being a hero in films. The actor comes up with a performance of a lifetime that may not cease to exist in the mind of film go-ers any time soon. Sidharth as Othenan Nambiar is a perfect foe whom we want to root for! Dubbing his own lines, he once again establishes that he is a perfectionist. Murali Gopi as the writer is good in bringing a lot of themes into the film and supporting it with great dialogues and setting in the pre-indepenence era. As an actor he is brutal as Kelu Nambiar. The rest of the cast including Namitha Pramod, Manikuttan, Swetha Menon, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Bobby Simha(in an extended appearance) have done their parts well. Technically the film is a stand out in almost all departments and Gopi Sunder's BGM is scintillating. The flaws of the film if any starts coming up in the early portions of the second half where the makers purposefully goes into God Mode in an over the top fashion, but surprisingly it blends well with the satirical, self-mocking theme of the film. By then most audiences will have forgotten the build up in the terrific first half. Had the makers spend some time in a bit of editing the film would have done wonders. History is a set of lies agreed upon - Napoleon Bonaparte. Nevertheless watch this one for the set design, unique script and an unforgettable performance by Dileep. Grade A (at Carnival Cinemas Sports Hub Trivandrum - Greenfield)
