#blood diner#horror imagery#gore tw#1987#comedy horror film#jackie kong#Michael Sonye#rick burks#carl crew#roger dauer#LaNette la france#lisa elaina#max morris#drew godderis#bob loya#alan corona#carol katz#john randall#cynthia baker#michael barton#laurie guzda#adorably goofy horror comedy. honestly‚ it doesn't all work and a lot of the performances are really pretty wooden#plus a lot of the dialogue seems to have been dubbed over in post which can be distracting. it's all saved by the presence of Burks and#Crew as the two murderous morons attempting to perform an ancient ritual and resurrect an ancient cannibal goddess (at the behest#of their uncle who's a brain in a jar). this kind of film lives and dies by its leads‚ and those two boys have genuinely some of the best#chemistry to be found in 80s cinema. they're just two dorky dudes trying to run a diner and also kill ppl. while goofing off and having fun#and one pursuing his dream of becoming a pro wrestler. they are honestly so much fun that it immediately makes up for any other#short comings in the cast (patchy)‚ the script (dumb) or the budget (nothing). also this has a hugely unlikely doowop soundtrack that just#somehow....works. a very weird thing but a minor treasure of a sort. originally conceived as a sequel to HG Lewis' 60s splatter classic#Blood Feast‚ but eventually reworked as its own film. Sadly Burks was killed in a car crash soon after this film; he showed real promise
