     He’d been flirting with the woman most of the night, a smile over his lips. He’d asked her small things here and there, one of which was her interests and her answer had brought a smile to his face. “Did I mention I have a plane? Sort of, more like a space ship, but the build is similar to a fighter plane. If you’d like, I I can show it to you.”

     His head hung when he sat there, the blue eyes of his moving from the teen’s feet to his helmet up on his bedroom shelf. What had his father’s last thoughts been before he handed that helmet over to Rocket and Gamora? What had he been thinking when he seemingly died? So many thoughts swirled in the teen’s head, the blues of his eyes once again shifting when he heard a knock at the bedroom door. “It’s open, C--... mom..” He kept doing that, forgetting that he had been adopted into this family.. 

His was gone now. His gaze shifted slowly back to the helmet on his shelf, a sad look settled in his eyes as he memorized every detail in it, down to the scratch under the right lens. He wondered momentarily which story was the one that left that.. He’d heard so many of his father’s stories.. which one caused that? Or had that been a story he hadn’t heard yet? A frown set on his face as he stared at it, barely realizing that he had been spoken to. “Sorry, I missed that, what was it?” He managed to break his focus on his helmet, blue eyes directing themselves to his new mom.

He’d found out from Tom where she was- not that he needed to. It wasn’t hard to guess where she’d be. She was where she always was, given the chance.

She was where she was meant to be.

He stood on the runway, one hand holding a bunch of roses, and the other shielding his eyes as he looked up at the jet looping in the sky. She looked about ready to come down. All he had to do was get her attention. 

His ring had already picked up the flight tower frequency; all it took was a little nudge of his will for it to patch him through.

“Ground control to Major Ferris,” you could hear his smile in his voice. “As much as you fit right in among the stars, someone back on earth has something for you.”
