The fact that Zavier had him hunting down a kid makes his blood boil. The fact that Zavier knew that Kieran disagreed with this didn’t help. The fact that Kieran would have to do it anyway, was DISGUSTING. Or maybe he wouldn’t have to. He knew that there was someone protecting the girl, a metahuman, so if he could just give them a way out -
He had his WED on, blocking any attempts for the girl to use her powers, but not enough to actually cause her great pain, and had them cornered, gun pointed at them, and he HAD them. It would be very easy to grab them and take them to Adstrum, job done, pat on the back from Zavier. Yeah right.
Letting them go was all a matter of opening himself up to an attack, which he did and ended up unconscious. When he woke up, he was expecting it to be in the Adstrum Medlab. His story was already running through his mind, the metahuman overpowered him, took him by surprise, but this wasn’t the medlab. He opened his eyes and blinked. Nope. Not a medlab. This was a crappy motel, and he was tied to a chair, and he couldn’t help the groan. Of course.
OF COURSE.
“This was a mistake.” He shut his eyes again, his headache was... not the best. But this was a mistake, they should’ve left him there. Capturing him meant more explorers would come, eventually.
“wow, there are ” he paused, looking over all that black. “there are a lot of costumes around here.”

what would ashton’s reaction(s) be to losing a teammate who he was super close to ? would he go back to being a hero, especially if he lost them in the field ?
ASK ME ANYTHING ABOUT ASHTON | ACCEPTING
✶ @irreplaceablescream
oh boy… listen, when ashton first began his hero business, he didn’t know what he was getting himself into. it’s not like you see it on tv shows or in comic books – it’s more than just catching the bad guys. you don’t get to make it out without a scratch every time. you don’t get to save the day every time. you and your friends don’t always make it out alive.
he’s naive. reckless. impulsive. impatient. he’s powerful, always giving him a leg up in the field. he’s arrogant, prideful, enjoying the fight – he hasn’t yet had to face disaster. he’s been hurt, sure, and the bad guys have gotten away. he’s learned to understand that there’s some sort of price to pay with being a hero.
but he hasn’t lost anyone yet. he doesn’t understand that feeling of someone leaving for good, where you’re unable to see them or hear their voice again. the reality is, if he did lose someone close to him in the field, it would partly be his own fault. that recklessness, impulsiveness – his teammates understand he has these issues, and they’ve tried to help him with them. it can put everyone in danger. and quite honestly? it probably causes someone’s demise.
initially, he’s distraught. shock hits him first, then anger, despair, guilt – it all floods over him. his powers are heavily influenced by his emotions, and they’d completely go out of control. he’d cry, he’d scream. the asphalt street would crumble, lamp posts bending and air physically becoming heavy – he’s almost liquefying all the molecules around him.
someone else will come by and help snap him out of this – just get him out of there to try to calm down. and once he does, the guilt really sets in. the remorse. he spends a long period of time wondering if he’s even fit to be a hero. if he’s really this powerful and this stupid, is it worth putting more people at risk?
eventually he would come back around. it would take him a long period of healing and his other teammates encouraging him to get back out there before he finally does. he knows that’s what everyone wants. and while outwardly he may still be arrogant at times, a piece of him is forever changed. he really would try to be less impulsive and reckless. he’s more aware of how strong he is and how every single second in the field is crucial. it’s just a shame that it takes him losing someone to get to that point.
‘ can i buy you a drink? ’ / @irreplaceablescream
@irreplaceablescream continued from here
Thinking that was something that had kept her up more than once over the years. Just as much as the nightmares or maybe the nightmares were a response to the thinking. In the dark of the room, it was hard to hate the other woman. It still made her feel weird but she had sympathy for her right now. A sigh escapes her lips at the question. “Do you want something to drink?” Not even close to an answer and Laurel made her way to the kitchen filling a glass up with water. “I don’t know. When he died and I found out what he did I didn’t feel anything for a long time. Dad said I was reckless and he was right.” She didn’t care if she got hurt so long as she was doing something. “Than he came back and I was angry for the first time it felt like. I don’t know if I ever completely forgave him. There is still a part of me that holds onto it because it’s the only way I know how not to fall in love with him again.”
