Tip #1 - Sweet corn. Corn is my No1 bait by a few margin. Its colour, its taste, and its texture are all highly alluring to carp. It has caught me a ridiculous amount of huge fish, including my personal best of 52lb - the late Mary from Wraysbury.
Seriously, though, any corn is fine. Apart from the fact carp like its taste, canned corn has sugar and salt included in it, which might be both good carp attractors. Also, corn has numerous highly-attractive amino acids that can emit food signals beneath the water.
The yellow colour of corn is additionally significant, and like the fluoro boilies, it's an advantage when you use it over lake beds where it really stands out. You can use it in quantity or on its own - again, corn is really a hook bait that can work wonderfully on its own.
Tip #2 - Tiger Nuts. Tiger nuts are brilliant baits.They provide a great smell and also the fish love eating them.One time I did a test with a few tanked carp and a few tigers. I placed a number of the nuts in the old sock, so the carp couldn’t see them, and suspended the sock in the surface of the water. The carp couldn’t see what was within the sock, neither could they get the bait.The effect was a tankful of fish frantically pulling at one of my cheesy old socks, hoping to get at whatever was inside.
So yes, carp love the scent of tigers!But exactly how should you fish with them? Well, less-experienced anglers could find it hard to believe, and I also do accept it could take a bit of time to get your head around the concept, but a single tiger nut fished by itself without the need of other bait around it's really a killer weapon.
I have caught several large fish (over 35lb) on tiger nuts fished in this fashion, totally on their very own. Also, you can fish a tiger over a tiny bed of hemp; another tactic that’s been great for me.
Tip #3 - Hemp.Most of the hype you see and read concerning this seed is valid. Carp really like hemp. The truth is, they think it tastes fantastic. Just a really small handful of the stuff can keep fish digging inside the lake bed, trying to find food, for hours and hours. I’ve actually stopped carp right where they are by throwing individual grains of hemp in front of them.
There was one occasion when I was sitting up a tree, over the top of a previously baited area that had been cleaned by the carp. Two fish were cruising around, seemingly not feeding. One was much bigger than the other.
I flicked2 or 3 grains (yes, grains!) of hemp into the water, several metres in front of the cruising fish. Because the carp passed beneath spot in which the hemp had hit the surface, you could clearly see their animated reactions as they tasted the hemp oil in the water.

The two carp then cruised over the spot, came round in a big circle and descended exactly where the hemp had hit the bottom. Several more grains of hemp and 30 minutes later I caught the larger one at in excess of 30lb!
People often ask me why carp love hemp.The fact is, no-one can tell - we can only guess. What I would say is that hemp oozes awesome smells and tasty oils into the water and that carp find these oils really attractive. Also, the size of hemp along with its texture is significant. Carp love eating small aquatic snails, and hemp closely resembles these in size and texture.
