Making of The Carpet Lava Video
Woo Hoo!!! I just posted my first music video and I am so excited with how it turned out. It was quite the adventure and it took a decent amount of time, but what a satisfying endeavor it was. I had so much fun working on it I thought I might share a little about how I made it:
You can see the completed video here: https://youtu.be/PAVY2lPc0M4
When I set out to make this video, the first problem I ran into was consistency with the light source. I was getting some really bad flicker when the light levels would change between photos. So, this thing was my way of solving that problem. Basically I took a whole bunch of cardboard and built this little enclosure.
I then made the top platform which was meant to hold the lights in place, as well as my cell phone. (Yep I filmed this thing on my iPhone. Ha!)
For light I used two matching LED flashlights that I had lying around. I secured them using the only duct-tape I could find... which had mustaches on it. Extra style points I guess? Under the cardboard I glued two layers of coffee filters to diffuse the light more evenly.
Then I glued some more cardboard to the top so my phone would fit snug and stay in place throughout the process.
All the various characters and props used in the video were created using construction paper. I have always loved stop motion art like the original format south parks so I wanted to replicate that.
I used a super simple app on my iPhone that is appropriately called “Stop Motion.” I found it incredibly easy to use!!! You can find it here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/stop-motion-studio/id441651297?mt=8
So There you have it! Just a little run through the DIY aspects of the project. Hope you like the video!!!!
