Carrie (1976) Carrie is a schoolgirl who is teased and mocked by her fellow school mates, when she discovers she has a special ability it changes her in ways she’d never have imagined. Okay, so first things first, this is another movie that I’ve meant to watch for so long. Similar to ‘The Thing’ and the best way to sum up my experience between the two, is that ‘The Thing’ lived up to what I expected, Carrie, exceeded it! Carrie is a fantastic film, I loved so much about it, I loved the score that seamlessly tied the movie together almost in tandem with Carrie. The Score, Sissy Spaceks performance and the story are a mean combination! The story is so intimate in that you feel Carries burden and her struggles throughout almost as if they’re your own, there’s a perfect balance of how much screen time is on her and with other characters and her sweet nature makes for one of the most mental endings ever! Which leads me onto probably my only real gripe with the film in that I felt her special ability was under utilised. It’s not until the last act that it really comes to fruition and there’s not really much made of something that’s pretty flipping unique, similar but not to the extent of Phenomena! But I can’t fault the film that much and was really taken aback by how much I enjoyed it. For a first time watch, and through the amount of shit I’ve watched from the 70’s this is clearly a timeless classic! Sissy Spacek delivers a stunning performance as Carrie and the film also stars a young John Travolta before his Grease Lightning and Amy Irving just before her coincidental role in supernatural movie ‘The Fury.’ Overall, Carrie is a timeless piece of cinema history, a finely crafted piece of work that everyone should watch.
