Read the basic gist of things here!

The structure of my cruel reign clans is very interesting. Often I use different names for ranks. Since SparkyClan was my first cruel reign clan, I hadn't decided that yet, but the normal ranks aren't mentioned in the moons anyway so I'll just use them.

Ranks: Monarch - the leader of the clan, will be succeeded by their firstborn child. The monarch will have the title of King/Queen or Monarch. The monarch is supposed to always have a mate and will break up mate pairings to get a new mate if they so choose.

Consort - the mate of the monarch, takes on the title of King/Queen/Monarch Consort. Has absolutely no power.

Heir Apparent - usually the monarch's firstborn, but may sometimes be a sibling if the monarch doesn't have kits yet. Just the cat who is next in line if the monarch dies.

Heirs - kits of the monarch, takes on the title of Prince/Princess/Princex. Given preferential treatment, and will always be first choice for mate selections. Can not be a border sweeper, will gain suffix 'heir' if without mate. Their mates will have the title of Prince/Princess/Princex Consort.

In Line - every cat in line for the monarch position. The monarch's kits will be first, in order of birth, then their niblings, then their siblings, and then their aunts and uncles, and so on. If the entire family has died out, a consort may end up taking over the throne.

Healers - basically just medicine cats. they can and should have a mate.

Knights - cats who have a mate. They will have their full name, and are treated much better than those without them. They mainly hunt for the clan.

Squires - cats between 7 and 12 moons, who are learning to hunt and fight. Can only be trained by Knights. They will always enter their mate grace period at 12 moons old, no matter their skill level. Will have the suffix 'paw'.

Courting/Grace Period - cats between 12 and 20 moons, who are mateless but excused from border sweeping until they can find a mate, or age out of the period. Will have the suffix 'paws'. Often go on border patrols to try and bring back cats who have potential to be their mate, but are able to flee when in danger, unlike border sweepers.

Border Sweepers - cats 21 moons and older, who do not have a mate. Do not get a suffix, and forced to 'sweep the border' every moon. They must always proceed in-game.

Seniors/Retirees - older cats who have served their clan long enough to be able to retire. A cat cannot retire until they have had kits. Border sweepers can retire, as long as they have had kits in their lifetime.

Kittens - young cats under 6 moons old, who can't leave camp or start their training yet. Kits are always fed first. Cats on their apprentice journeys at 6 moons are technically still kittens, but are functionally somewhere in-between.

Be prepared for character designs, personalities, genders, sexualities and relationships to change drastically for no apparent reason. Also be prepared for important lore, names of ranks, challenge rules, plotlines, my art style and my way of making pages to also change drastically for no apparent reason.

SparkyClan is something I make for fun, so I'll be changing things up whenever I come up with a better idea for how to do things. Yes, characters will probably look different every time they appear. And my art style may change every few moons. But it's fineee...

Hey SparkyClan, can you tell us more about how the clan is structured, and what goes on in the daily life of a cat there? What does the camp look like?

Thank you for the ask, valued reader (who is definitely not me). SparkyClan has a very interesting way of doing things, and I'd be glad to share more about them.

SparkyClan, and by extension all the other clans in the area, are structured differently to how most warrior cats clans. Because the world that SparkyClan lives in doesn't have traditional warrior clans, instead every clan works this same way.

Putting it under the cut because I yap.

They don't have a traditional 'camp'. Instead, cats are able to den anywhere in the territory, but most stay close to the monarchy, who live near a river in an area where multiple small rowboats had been crashed, or left.

Mated pairs of knights usually share a den, with their kits under 6 moons old living with them. Occasionally, multiple mated pairs would share the same den, with their close friends, or a littermate & their pair.

When a kit reaches 6 moons, they're sent to sweep the border for an entire moon, and if they return to the riverbank where the monarchy dens, once the moon has fully waned, they're able to take a squire name of -paw and assigned a knight to teach them to hunt.

Usually, since the clan is so small currently, all current squires will share the same den, dubbed the squires' den, which is as close to the monarchy and proper 'camp' as it can be.

The doctors' den is more like a workplace for mated doctors. They don't live there, but every day they're required to go there to work. Any cat in the clan can go to the doctors' den if they need healing, and the doctor will help them to the best of their ability.

Border sweepers usually den alone, but may occasionally den with other border sweepers for safety, or a mated pair (usually a littermate). Border sweepers are required to sweep the border every day, and the monarch monitors them to make sure they're doing their job.

Most cats in the clan are allowed to do as they please. They aren't required to hunt 'for the clan' and can hunt for themself or others however they want. They only think cats must do is be an assigned mentor for a squire if chosen, usually only until they reach 9 moons, and if the monarch or any member of the royal family asks, any cat in the clan must forfeit any prey they want to them.

If you're wondering why cats would even join a clan to begin with... it's dangerous alone out there. Beasts are everywhere, you're never safe. The place where the monarchy dens is protected somehow, and the closer you are to it, the safer you'll be.

Royals don't venture far from their den.

I have impulsively decided that in the SparkyClan world, there are these creatures called beasts. It's not terribly relevant, but all the predators cats could encounter will be replaced with beasts. If I ever draw them, they'll be drawn as huge shadows with sharp teeth and claws.

So border sweepers are expected to protect the other cats of the clan from beasts, by sweeping the border and slaying or chasing off any beasts they encounter. This is why border sweepers die extremely fast.

I've given Hollow Hearth so much lore and so much plot that whenever I look at the notes doc and the script, it scares me away. It sucks because I love Hollow Hearth, I love the story and the characters and the lore and the worldbuilding. I so badly want to just start drawing pages again, to tell this story that I've written and I love so dearly, but I need to finish playing the save, and finish writing the script, and make sure that the story comes to a perfect conclusion, so that the story will make sense and be perfect, so people will love it just as much as I do. It can't ever be perfect, and I know I'll love whatever I make even if it's not, but still, it does need the entire script to be written before I start making pages again. I hope one day, I'll finish it.

With SparkyClan, and a bunch of other clans I've made, I used a challenge on perchance called the cruel reign challenge, although I followed the rules very vaigely.

Will be going in depth in other posts, but here's the gist of it.

When a cat reaches adulthood, they'll be assigned a mate, if possible. They'll only get their full name once they have a mate. There's a 'grace period' for young cats to find a mate, and they'll have the suffix 'paws' during it. If they still don't have a mate once they hit 20 moons, then they'll be stripped of their suffix and become a border sweeper, meaning they have to do a solo border patrol every single moon.

Cats who reach 6 moons must spend a whole moon walking the entire clan's borders (a solo border patrol) before becoming an apprentice, referred to as an 'apprentice journey'. Kits look forward to their journey, and it's seen as something to be excited about. If the kit dies, well, they wouldn't have made a good clanmate, would they?

The leadership is a dynasty, meaning the leader's kits will become the next leader after they pass. Leaders' kits have the title of Prince/Princess/Princex, and their mates will also gain that title. Leaders' kits cannot be border sweepers, and if they are without a mate, they take on the suffix 'heir'.
