Originally I made this as a blog for my cat ocs then I realised it would probably be better if I made each clangen clan and oc story its own dedicated blog.
This clan was run using rules and a structure inspired by the cruel reign challenge, which I found on perchance two years ago and decided it was my favorite challenge ever.
Please note, the art and moons I'm posting for SparkyClan currently are at least a year old, most likely almost 2! Once the backlog of those run out, you'll hopefully be seeing new pages that have been recently drawn!

We also have a new 'mate pair'! Violetshade is extremely straight, but neither want to be border sweepers so they agreed to 'pretend' to be mates so they could be premoted.
The next moon update is going to be the last, since I'm not overly interested in continuing making updates. I do want to make another clangen comic one day, but I'm not sure when that day will be.
Moon 16? After abandoning this project for a while, I went back to it a year and a month ago to sketch out moon 16. I never finished it, so I've just touched it up with nice colors and left it at that. It doesn't look too bad, honestly.

Under the cut is a scene that I cut from this moon because in hindsight it has.. weird implications. (The monarch saves a kit from drowning and immediately decides that she'll be the mate of her apprentice-aged daughter when she grows up)

First of all, I wrote these pages really weirdly, and the dialogue is confusing.
Second of all, the idea that Dewstar looked at a small child and thought 'that would make a great babymaker for my daughter's heirs' is... really fucking messed up. And I don't want to include that.
Icy and Stem do end up getting together, and have a very loving kinda qpr relationship as a bit more than friends. Since SparkyClan doesn't exactly have a 'camp', and kits are raised entirely by their parents, with occasional checkups from the doctors, most other clanmates don't meet kits until they're squires, but even then, squires don't really get 'mentors' in SparkyClan, just assigned a cat to teach them how to hunt for a few moons, before they're left to do what they like.
I would much rather that Icy and Stem meet when they're both squires, instead of Dewstar deciding before Stem's even a full squire that Icy's going to be his mate.
I think I'm going to stop making moon updates for SparkyClan.
The lore and worldbuilding is confusing and not at all well thought out. I played the save two years ago, and the comic doesn't really have any kind of cohesive story. The way the clan is structured doesn't make much sense with the world it exists in, and it doesn't make sense why the leadership of the clan would keep upholding these traditions that almost everyone in the clan despises.
Why would the leader send her kits to the edge of the border for an entire moon where there is an extremely high chance that they could die, for no particular reason. It doesn't make sense why they would have border sweepers, as well.
There are just so many aspects of the clan and it's worldbuilding that bother me, and I'd rather start working on a new clan that's more thought out.
I've drawn up to Moon 20, so I'll be posting those moons in the next few weeks, but after that, I'm pretty sure there won't be any more updates.
By the time the backlog has run out, I'll hopefully have another comic blog up, which I'll share once I make it!

This is the end of the pages I made two years ago! Moon 16 consists a sketch I drew a year ago, which I'm not going to redraw, and once we reach moon 17, it'll be all new art :O
Hello there! This is the first clangen blog I've seen using Cruel Reign, and I think it's very neat! I just wanted to say that I like how you draw the cat's expressions!
Also, if you're still doing the ask game, 🏞️ How did your clan start? and 👑 Your leader and deputy disappear into thin air, who takes over?
Aw thank you so much! The art for the moons I've been posting so far are almost two years old, so it's nice to hear that people can still enjoy my older art.
For the ask game, I've never really thought about how the clan started before.
The clan probably started multiple generations before now. Cats naturally grouped together to stay safe from the beasts, and over time the ranks naturally evolved, with one family being the main cats in charge, and the rank of leader being passed down the family line.
The clan was probably much bigger before Dewstar's reign, but something must have happened before she became monarch, to get the clan to the smaller size it is now.
With the second question, SparkyClan doesn't really have a 'deputy' per say, the closest thing would be the head doctor or the monarch's mate (the consort). Currently, Needlechill is both the doctor and consort, so I'd say she'd count as the 'deputy' in this scenario!
If both the Monarch and Consort disappeared, I'm not sure if the clan would actually get another Monarch. He hasn't been shown much (if at all) in the old moon updates, but I think at this time, Kestrel would step up if the high ranks disappeared.
He wouldn't officially take over, but he'd try to maintain order in the clan. Even though he's a border sweeper, I don't see a single cat in the clan (currently) not listening to him.
Be prepared for character designs, personalities, genders, sexualities and relationships to change drastically for no apparent reason. Also be prepared for important lore, names of ranks, challenge rules, plotlines, my art style and my way of making pages to also change drastically for no apparent reason.
SparkyClan is something I make for fun, so I'll be changing things up whenever I come up with a better idea for how to do things. Yes, characters will probably look different every time they appear. And my art style may change every few moons. But it's fineee...
Here's a little five-minute sketch of Fickle and Raven, our current squires! They've been inseparable from the day that Needlechill brought Ficklekit back from an herb patrol. As you may have noticed from all the appearances they've had so far!
They've shared a den since they were kits, and they've been planning since they first became squires to become mates as soon as they hit 12 moons!
Have some Coyotedapple and Creekgoose redesigns in preparation for designing their kits! I stopped making moon pages at moon 15, so the kits were never drawn in the original pages other than as newborns, which means I have free reign!
Hey SparkyClan, can you tell us more about how the clan is structured, and what goes on in the daily life of a cat there? What does the camp look like?

Thank you for the ask, valued reader (who is definitely not me). SparkyClan has a very interesting way of doing things, and I'd be glad to share more about them.
SparkyClan, and by extension all the other clans in the area, are structured differently to how most warrior cats clans. Because the world that SparkyClan lives in doesn't have traditional warrior clans, instead every clan works this same way.
Putting it under the cut because I yap.
They don't have a traditional 'camp'. Instead, cats are able to den anywhere in the territory, but most stay close to the monarchy, who live near a river in an area where multiple small rowboats had been crashed, or left.
Mated pairs of knights usually share a den, with their kits under 6 moons old living with them. Occasionally, multiple mated pairs would share the same den, with their close friends, or a littermate & their pair.
When a kit reaches 6 moons, they're sent to sweep the border for an entire moon, and if they return to the riverbank where the monarchy dens, once the moon has fully waned, they're able to take a squire name of -paw and assigned a knight to teach them to hunt.
Usually, since the clan is so small currently, all current squires will share the same den, dubbed the squires' den, which is as close to the monarchy and proper 'camp' as it can be.
The doctors' den is more like a workplace for mated doctors. They don't live there, but every day they're required to go there to work. Any cat in the clan can go to the doctors' den if they need healing, and the doctor will help them to the best of their ability.
Border sweepers usually den alone, but may occasionally den with other border sweepers for safety, or a mated pair (usually a littermate). Border sweepers are required to sweep the border every day, and the monarch monitors them to make sure they're doing their job.
Most cats in the clan are allowed to do as they please. They aren't required to hunt 'for the clan' and can hunt for themself or others however they want. They only think cats must do is be an assigned mentor for a squire if chosen, usually only until they reach 9 moons, and if the monarch or any member of the royal family asks, any cat in the clan must forfeit any prey they want to them.
If you're wondering why cats would even join a clan to begin with... it's dangerous alone out there. Beasts are everywhere, you're never safe. The place where the monarchy dens is protected somehow, and the closer you are to it, the safer you'll be.
I haven't thought much about a lot of their genders and sexualities since SparkyClan doesn't really have much involved lore or thought put into it, I mainly started making pages to draw fun designs and practice drawing characters interacting!
So I may make stuff up on the spot, but that'll be great for worldbuilding and character-building!

I haven't drawn the hollow hearth cast in such a long time! It's so uncanny seeing Wolfpaw smile, he looks like an entirely different cat.
I do want to start working on hollow hearth again, but it's hard to start up again because there's so much lore and plot and ideas I want to incorporate that it's become somewhat overwhelming..
I'll reblog this here as well since it's clangen related! These are the cats from my clangen comic from last year. I still really adore them and their story, it's just hard to start working on it again, since there's so many things I need to do before I can start making pages again.
