fred and ginger do occasionally kiss in their movies! but they don't *romantically* kiss on screen until their 8th film (out of 10 lol). all the others prior to that are comedy kisses (top hat) or the ones the camera doesn't show (swing time) or ones that get thwarted at the last second (follow the fleet and also swing time again). something prompted them to in their 8th film (carefree), and then their last two films they play married couples so they kiss a lot!
(I'm so sorry for the late response! It's been a long week.)
This is interesting! I have to admit, I feel like I need to rewatch the Fred and Ginger films more closely because they blend together in my memory. I think I've seen at last half of their movies, but not the last ones.
(I lied—I have seen "The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle" but that was ages ago so I don't think I remember many details.)
It's also interesting to see how they show intimacy between their characters in other ways rather than the obvious reasons—whether due to censorship or creative choices. The "secret kiss" from "Swing Time" is particularly adorable!
I just love the cute fluff and spectacle of it all and that spark of the 1930s comedies. 💋
