First make sure you're assigned to that register - but that should be a given.
Hit the register button on the top right> Swipe your card.
A screen will come up that says something along the lines of "hit yes to begin transaction" (not sure if thats right but just press what it tells you to)
Then it will prompt you to ask if they've joined Club Cali (Tip: I always ask if they've fond everything okay before I ask i've they've joined Club Cali so it doesn't seem like you're rushing into the question all awkwardly) > Ask if they've joined. If yes, have them enter their phone number and it will just appear onto the next screen. If no, you can tell them something along the lines "Be sure to check it out online if you're interested" and hit no.
The screen where you ring everything up will come next. Scan all of the items barcodes.
Next, click "Tender" which will be on the right side of the screen.
(In my town, we have a bag tax, so that screen comes up and we ask them if they'd like a bag and put how many they want - if this doesn't apply to your town, disregard this)
The customer will either start pulling out cash, a credit card, or whatever their form of payment is. You could ask, or just observe the situation. (For the purpose of simplicity, in this tutorial I will go over credit cards and cash, as they are the most common forms of payment)
Hit the "Cash" button on the top right
(Tip: When you see them starting to pull out cash, take this opportunity to start decensoring some of their items. Since some people take forever to pull out their cash, it will save time by not just sitting there waiting.)
Take their cash, count it out> Enter in the amount that they gave you.
Next, the register will open. Put in the cash they gave you, give them their change.
(A lot of people do this different ways, but this is the way that I find the easiest and most efficient)
When you see them pull out their card, right away ask them if its "Debit or Credit". Do this before you even hit the Credit tab on the right side.
If they say debit: NOW hit the Credit tab, tell them they can swipe their card and enter their pin on the pad whenever their ready.
They will then have to verify the amount and that will finish up the transaction and the receipt will print.
If they say Credit: Ask them "May I please see your card and photo ID" Some people will try to swipe it on the pad, but since you haven't pressed the credit key yet, nothing will happen.
Take the card and the ID, check to make sure they match, and hand back the ID. NOW hit the credit tab and swipe the card.
If its a debit card that that they want to run as credit, the option to run as credit will pop up in the top left, and you will hit that.
Then it will prompt you to enter the last four digits of their card number (This is why it is always better to swipe the card yourself, because you will already have the card in you hand and you won't have to ask the customer for it or the numbers)
Enter the numbers, hit enter, and tell the customer to verify the amount and sign if necessary. If they do have to sign (transactions over 25 dollars i'm pretty sure) you just hit yes. That will finish off the transaction and the receipt will print.
(Tip: If you ask if the card is debit or credit, and they say either is fine, always choose debit because its faster for you and it makes the customer do all the work)
Make sure all the items are uncensored, bag them up, and hand it to the customer along with the receipt.
