AU where Cas meets you in a coffee shop and he’s just a normal guy
Also, if this is bad it's because my cousin is right beside me trying to force me to make cupcakes
Some days when Castiel woke before Mel, he thought back to when he had first met her . With her head resting against his chest and the gentle sound of her breathing, it was easy to remember the quiet cafe he had walked into, unaware that someone so vital to his happiness was sitting a mere six feet away.
There wasn’t a certain thing that had pulled him towards her -it was a general feeling, an unrecognizable force, and an urge to get closer to this girl who sat alone yet so completely content.
It was the way she sat curled around her book, blocking the whole world out, and the way her face moved as she read through the pages, expressing different emotions as her story progressed.
It was the fact that she didn’t hear him say hello until he cleared his throat, and the fact that she had still had a hint of a far-off gaze in her eyes that showed she was still focused on something else. She had let him sit in the seat across from her, quickly falling back into her story as if he weren’t even there.
He had been hesitant to talk to her after that, not wanting to interrupt her peace. But she had done it for him. Without so much as lifting an eye, she began a light and natural conversation. It was so easy for him to talk to her.
And so they had talked. They had talked until the owner had come over to their table to inform them they cafe was closing soon. They made an arrangement to meet at the same table the next day, and had gone their separate ways.
The small table at the cafe became their place. Days turned into weeks and then into months, and everyday they met at the same table in that little cafe.
Even after they decided to move in together, they set aside time every so often to go back to the cafe where they had met on that unforgettable day.
Castiel had thought that it seemed right that it would be the placed where he proposed to her. He had been nervous and hesitant but she had held his hand across the table as she always did, talking about what she had done at work and the exhibition that was coming to town next week.
He didn’t think he would ever forget her surprised smile or the unmatchable glow she had given off as he had knelt in front of her, ring in hand, to ask her the most important question he had ever asked.
And Castiel knew, for a fact, he would never forget the unbridled joy he had felt when she had said “Yes.”
DARN YOU MEL NOW I'M IMAGINING CUTE THINGS BETWEEN YOU AND CAS. "Cas, whew, how do you keep all that information up in your noodle?" "I have a very good noodle, Mel." "Yeah, you have a fantastic noodle." "It's very serviceable." "It's a handsome noodle too." "This is my vessel's noodle."
Me. Fic. Now.
Mel perked up as Cas finished the history lesson. "That was so cool, buddy."
Cas smiled a little. "I'm glad you liked it. Anything you wanted to know more about, or wanted specified?" Since Mel had essentially dropped everything in her old life, including any sort of schooling, she'd convinced Cas to teach her just about anything.
Mel thought for a moment, eyes narrowing briefly She shook her head. "I think it all went down pretty well." She tilted her head. "You sure are good at keeping all that information in your noodle."
"I have a very good noodle, Mel." He leaned forward a bit to look at her notebook.
"Yeah, you have a fantastic noodle." She grinned.
"It's very serviceable."
"It's a handsome noodle, too," she said a little smugly, as if she were somehow involved in the good luck.
"This is my vessel's noodle." One corner of Cas' mouth quirked up slightly.
"It is still a very handsome noodle." Mel nodded as if that ended the matter.
Castiel held onto the girl's hand quietly as they lay out under the stars. "Melody... You're aware that I'll never leave you, right?"
Mel looked over at her angel, a small smile on her face. "Yes... What's brought this on?"
Castiel shook his head slightly, ignoring her question. He didn't have an answer, but this needed to be said. "No matter what I do, Mel, or where I go... I'll always come back to you."
"Always?"
He nodded seriously, wrapping his arms around her. "Always."
Her grin widened as his arms around her tightened, and they lay in content silence as they continued staring at the night sky.
First I was amused and couldn't read it. Then I read it and was amused more. Then I had the thought of "At least that's someone" and got serious and decided this was a very good and important little fic.
