Hey there. So, I’m on a Junior Roller Derby team, and recently.... We've lost one of our own. Casper... Their name was Casper... They played on Darlings of Destruction, a Junior League team in Detroit Michigan. They were starting to struggle with their gender identity. Going through transition, and struggling with acceptance. But that doesn't matter anymore. Because they’re dead. They killed themselves, and now, there’s another life lost. Another life with the most amazing potential to be someone... just... Gone. i’m sick of this. I’m done. Too many times this has happened-Transgender people resorting to suicide because of a lack of acceptance, or a lack of support, or a lack of love for themselves, a lack of things ever human needs to feel alive and loved and want to live, but they didn't get enough and I’m sick of it. I’m sick of loosing people.
Casper was being bullied. As if her own internal turmoil wasn't enough-Casper was getting bullied for who they were. We lost Leelah, we lost Ash, we lost aubrey, we lost Kayla, we’ve lost so many. We’ve lost more than we can count. And I’m sick of it. I’m sick of people treating people like shit. Of people abusing and bullying and rejecting people because of who they are. Because of what they are. This was a young girl going through a gender crisis. And she didn’t get enough support, and now... Now she’s gone. we’ve lost an amzing person. A fantastic skater. Casper was gonna go places. And now everything they ever worked for... Is gone.
Trans people are still people. You’re a piece of shit if you think otherwise. It doesn't matter who they are, you treat them like you’d treat any other stranger, any other fiend, any other loved one. You treat them like a person. You make them know that they are loved and important and most of all, they are a person who deserves all the support in the world. Support them. They need it.
The Darlings of Destruction have a bout this weekend, and are playing their best for Casper, win or loose. So, we’re wearing teal this weekend. To remember Casper. to remember who they were. To remember the good they did while they were around, and to remember this phenomenal young player. Derby people all over, even non-derby-players:Show your support for Casper. Show your support for everyone and anyone like Casper. Casper didn't get enough love while they were around. So make sure that people like them do, while you’ve still got the chance. stand up for trans teens, make a difference. We lost Casper. We don’t wanna loose anyone else.
Forever in our hearts, we will remember you. All my love to Sam #57 and the rest of the Darlings of Destruction Junior Derby League. There are no words that make a loss such as this acceptable. Whoever you are, reading this, know that you are loved. Find what makes you happy and cling to it! Life is so very precious, spread the goodness and put an end to intolerance. Let's continue to love and support each other, always.
