You've been nominated for the Alternate Caste Meme! Post what job you would do in each other caste, then send this anonymously to three more people!
So, this looks really fun, but I make a point of not revealing extraneous personal information on the internet. I’ve never mentioned my job, my caste, my city, or my age on tumblr, and I’m not going to change that.
I guess it’s not like I currently work my dream in-caste job, so I can just do all of the castes without mentioning which one could be technically possible.
Purple: Owning my own crafts store. You know the kind, with a knitting circle that meets in the shop on Thursday afternoons, and discounts for people the proprietor likes.
Grey: Police detective. It’s a tough job psychologically, but I think I could deal with it. And it’s directly serving people, it’s important.
Orange: Teaching older kids. A technical subject, math or science or something. Humanities have too much room for making stuff up, I don’t have the patience for that.
Yellow: Programming. From what I’ve seen, I’d be good at it, and it sounds fun. And the salaries don’t hurt.
Green: Some kind of research, again in a technical subject. Since I’m told the experience of doing research in an area is vastly different from learning about it, I can’t really specify further.
Blue: I would kind of suck at all blue jobs. I think I might be an ok judge?
caste flexibility meme
if I were blue I would do: I’d be torn here? Like I would want to do policy but there are two areas that I’d really want to change - caste-based inequality, and criminal justice/policing. I think probably the latter though because I know more about crime and policing than like economics etc.
if I were green I would do: research criminology! I would be real life Dr Tep. ;)
if I were yellow I would do: lab tech I guess? Just the non-gross version of what I do now. Or legal advice.
if I were grey I would do: homicide detective ftw.
if I were orange I would: be the pathologist on the other side of the glass. Or the only good red social worker. :/
if I were purple I would: actually don’t know, I would make a crappy purple I think. Physical labour, customer service and business would all be bad fits for me. I can do delicate stuff with my hands though, so maybe I would make things? Is dressmaking purple? I’d like to try working out in the countryside with animals but I have no idea if I’d be any good at it.
wait, are you some sort of ~~caste abolitionist uwu~~ or something? fucking greens.
[OOC: in reference to]
So,it’s disingenuous that you’re characterizing caste abolitionism as a~just a green thing~. Of the caste abolitionists that I know, two outof three of them are nongreens! And I think it’s uncharitable thatyou’re acting like all caste abolitionists are only doing it for thesake of edginess.
Butto answer your question:
I’mnot a caste ~abolitionist~, no. I love my caste and my culture! It’swhere I belong! It brings me joy! It’s allowed me grow and flourishinto the green that I am!
AndI think that most people value their caste and its culture as well! Our castes make ourlives better in so many ways!
Castes exist so thatwe can all live in a society that guides us to become the bestversion of ourselves, a society built by all of our unique skills! Sothat our children grow up in a world where their talents arenurtured! So that we have our own culture that values our aptitudes! So that everyone finds fulfillment accordingto theirability, and everyone isfulfilled according to theirneeds!
But sometimes, thesystem fails.
Some people havetalents! Amazing talents!
Talents that aren’tsuited to their caste.
A green who is aparkour expert. A yellow who is an prolific musician. A purple whowould be incredible doctor, given the chance.
Or a grey who is~clearly an excellent mathematician in the making~.
We have castes sothat our ancestry contributes to our capacities. So that the culturewe grow in fosters our gifts. So that our children inherit theeugenic benefits they deserve.
And so there’s noreason that someone who ~exemplifies the skills of a caste~ should not ~be part of it~.
Of course, I am nota policy blue. (Or even a policy green!) And I know it’s not assimple as just ~switching around haphazardly~!
But the purpose of asociety is to give the people within better lives.
And letting peoplebe the caste they are most suited to would make everyone’s livesbetter.
