Thirumavalavan Urges CM Stalin to Address Vadakadu Clash Beyond Law and Order, Demands CB-CID Probe
Thol. Thirumavalavan, President of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and Chidambaram MP, has strongly condemned the police's characterization of the recent Vadakadu clash as a non-caste-based conflict. Speaking at a protest organized by his party at Thilagar Thidal in Pudukkottai, Thirumavalavan stated that his party opposed reducing the incident to a mere law and order issue.
The Vadakadu clash, which occurred on May 5 during the Muthumariamman Temple festival, saw violence when members of the Most Backward Classes (MBCs) reportedly entered a Scheduled Caste (SC) hamlet, causing property damage and setting fire to a hut belonging to a Dalit widow. Thirumavalavan expressed his outrage, urging that the case be transferred to the CB-CID for a thorough investigation.
The VCK leader also appealed to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to issue clear guidelines for District Collectors and police officers on handling incidents of violence against the Scheduled Castes. Thirumavalavan emphasized that addressing caste-based violence requires a proactive approach and cannot be reduced to a simple law enforcement matter.
The incident has sparked widespread concerns about the safety and rights of Dalits in the region, and Thirumavalavan's call for justice reflects the broader demand for stronger safeguards for marginalized communities.
