Lillafüred Palace Hotel is located in Lillafüred, in Hungary’s Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, set dramatically above the artificial Lake Hámori in the Bükk Mountains. Built in 1929 in a neo-Renaissance style with eclectic influences, the palace hotel is surrounded by a vast parkland featuring nearby caves, a hanging garden, the artificial Szinva Stream waterfall, a trout farm, and rock-climbing areas. Although construction was completed in 1929, the hotel officially opened in 1930 and quickly became a fashionable retreat for high society, hosting congresses and notable guests throughout the 1930s. During World War II, the palace was repurposed as a military hospital for wounded Russian soldiers, and following the war, management passed to the National Council of Trade, operating for four decades as a state-run resort accessible by special vouchers. In 1993, the hotel was acquired by Hunguest Hotels, which undertook an extensive renovation, paneling the rooms and furnishing the interiors with period-style pieces to restore its palace atmosphere. Today, the three-star hotel offers 131 guest rooms and suites, along with amenities including a wine cellar, lobby bar, the Hunyadi and Matthias restaurants, bowling lanes, billiards, a salon, sports and fitness facilities, and elegant event spaces for corporate functions and weddings.
