At the top of the mountain⛰️ in the middle of Cullera, dominating the city and the sea🌊, there is an impressive fortress🏰. It once was walled🧱, although those walls no longer remain. The original fortress was built during the Caliphate🕌 period (10th century) with the purpose of controlling the coastline and the estuary of the Jucar river. After King Jaime👑 conquered Cullera in the 13th century, he ordered a new castle to be built over the ruins of the Moorish castle and it was given to the Order of the Hospitallers Knights. There are still the rest of the old towers, forming part of the old walled area on the mountain. You can climb🚶♀️ all the way up using a zig-zagging pathway along of statues and small chapels of worship for those of Christian faith⛪. -- #CastlesOfSpain #Cullera #CastleOfCullera #CastilloYMurallas #Castillo #castilloymurallasdecullera #MedievalCastles #MedievalCastlesOfEurope #MediterraneanArchitecture #MediterraneanHistory #OnTopOfTheWorld #OnTopOfTheMountain #OnTopOfTheHill #RunToTheHills #Moorish #MoorishHistory #Hospitallers #HospitallersKnights #KingJaime #christianarchitecture #CulleraTurismo #Spain2021 (at Castillo y murallas de Cullera) https://www.instagram.com/p/COfJu64Jeg3/?igshid=5edsnm826al7
