Castaway~Luke One-Shot

This is for Dani’s (aka @cliffordchick ) SGFG Series. You should go check out her blog and the rest of the writing in the series. I hope you enjoy!!!

Inspiration- This one shot is based off of Castaway. It definitely isn't as upbeat as the song, but i did interpret it in my own way.

Word Count- 1200+

“Hiii this is luke! I’m not available at the moment but leave a message and I’ll get back to you at some point in time!!” You’ve heard this so many times within the past week. It was like a broken record playing over and over again. His voice didn’t even sound real anymore.

“Hi Luke. I know you’re probably sick of me calling. I’m sorry. Leaving you was- it was such a shitty decision. I fucked up so bad. I took you for granted and I hate myself for that. The boy I was with, Nolan, he didn’t give a shit about me. He didn’t really care. The nights he would come over would last until the moment I fell asleep. Anyways, call me back. I miss you.”

As your voice came to a halt you slowly brought the phone away from your ear. Your trembling index finger tapped the red button on the screen concluding the voicemail. You felt your dry chapped lips quiver. The tears followed after several minutes of you just sitting there in your bed, not feeling an ounce of any emotion.

You tried closing your eyes to help ease the pain in your head. You didn’t want to cry any more, it made you feel weak. But holding the tears back made the pressure in your head unbearable. You’ve had everything bottled up for a few days.

The thing that made this whole situation worse was that you caused yourself this pain. Luke didn’t do anything. You took it upon yourself to decide that Luke was too boring for you, now that you had been together for a year and a half.

At the time you didn’t realize how shitty you were being to him, or how much you would hurt yourself. You’re be selfish though, just thinking about your pain that you made. What about what you did to him? Constantly lying about where you were while he was on tour, all the excuses you made when he offered to fly you to one of his shows. Sleeping with a boy that meant nothing to you must have killed him.

Considering what you felt like, Luke must be going through hell. One thing was apparent though, and that was you needed to clear the air. You needed talk to Luke. But what exactly would you say? I’m sorry for fucking with another boy while you were on tour? That wouldn’t cut it.

After a good night’s sleep, a long bubble bath, and a nice breakfast, you thought about who knows Luke the best. He also knew you really well. One of Luke’s best friends who you’ve known for 3 years, is actually the person who set you up with luke as a blind date.

When you decided to call him it was half past 9. The phone call was brief. He wanted to know why you wanted him to come over. You refused to tell him why and begged him to come. He finally agreed and said that he would be over in a half an hour or so.

Just like planned, you heard a knock on your apartment door at 10 a.m. You opened the door to a handsome 21 year old with hazel eyes and curly hair flowed back.

“Ashton it’s so good seeing you,” you threw your arms around him, engulfing him in a long hug. He followed your actions and did the same.

After greeting each other the two of you moved to your kitchen table. You prepared a cup of tea for yourself and Ashton. As you brought it to the table he decided to address the elephant the room, “Y/N, this is about Luke isn’t it?”

The mention of his name made your heart sink. You took a deep breath and started to explain, “Yes it is. I don’t know what to do Ashton, he won’t return my calls or texts. I know I fucked up bad but I just want to make thing right.”

“He hasn’t been taking anybody’s calls lately. The only way you are going to be able to talk to him is if you go over there and talk to him face to face. Might I mention that is probably the best way to do it.”

You thought about what he was saying. You have always admired Ashton. He was always there for you when you had no one to go to. No matter what you needed help with he was there with wise words. He already had you convinced to go over to Luke’s.

Ashton left your house to allow you to make yourself somewhat presentable. Luke’s house was only a short drive away. When you pulled into the driveway you were afraid to get out of the car.

The courage slowly built up inside of you. You stepped out of the car and walked up to the door. You clicked the doorbell twice before he answered the door. He opened it and stood in the doorway staring at you.

“Luke we need to talk about this, please?” he nodded and moved out of the way and let you in. He led you to the couch and you sat down.

“It’s good seeing you Y/N,” he spoke in a hushed tone. You could tell in his voice that he was hurt.

“No, you’re lying Luke.”

“I’m not. What you did to me hurt me a lot Y/N,” he paused for a moment and licked his lips, “But what’s hurting me the most is not talking to you, not waking up to your text messages, or on a rare occasion waking up to your beautiful face with your messy hair lazily laying all over your face.”

“I miss that too, but I’m not good for you. You know the saying once a cheater always a cheater. That probably applies to me,” as much as you wanted to jump in his arms and go back to being the perfect couple, it didn’t work that way. “I don’t deserve you Luke.”

“Baby stop you do deserve me. That saying doesn’t have to apply to you, I believe that you will be faithful. I know how strong you are, I love you Y/N!”

“I love you too Luke, I love you so so so much,” Luke’s eyes lit up and his head rose, “But I can’t trust myself.”

He took your hands and held them tight, “Please, we can make this better.”

You got your hands out of his grasp and placed them on his shoulders and kissed his forehead.

“You deserve someone that will give you all their attention, I guess I’m just not that person.”

With that being said you gave him a quick hug. When you pulled away you noticed his tear filled eyes. You gave him a frown full of sorrow.

You rushed out the door not wanting to be in there one second longer then you needed to be. The well known feeling in your head came back. Once in the car you couldn’t hold it back. You needed to let it out or else you were determined your head was going to explode.

After talking to Luke you finally feel something. Regret. But there’s no turning back now.
