Unless you have an outdoor enclosure, your cat should never ever be left outside.
Not only does it endanger wildlife, but it directly endangers your cat.
The average lifespan of an indoor cat is 12 to 15 years, the average lifespan of an outdoor cat is only 2 to 5. Outdoor cats are left exposed to predators, vehicles, hunting traps, parasites, and even abusive humans. Any number of awful things can happen to an outdoor cat.
Yall, I'm coming to you to ask assistance for my cat.
This is Phoebe Sophia. I inherited her from my mom when my dad was no longer able to care for her.
My parents were very much of the "cats are really independent, just make sure they get their shots and they'll be fine" generation. In spite of this, Phoebe has made it to fifteen years old. Unfortunately my parents' methods have left me to play catchup with her health, and that's where this began.
At her last vet visit, Phoebe's teeth were really bad, and the vet said we'd have to start talking about the possibility of extraction. She also had an eye infection, which was the primary cause for the appointment, for which she got antibiotics.
The infection still hasn't cleared and I'd planned to take her back in on my next paycheck to see how to proceed. But then last night happened: I was playing a game, she was sitting next to me grooming herself, and suddenly snapped her head back and yowled. She kept on crying, clearly not just being her grumbly old lady self but in serious pain. I have pain meds for her paws (the bastards my parents rescued her from declawed her), so I got a dose into her, but even just gently touching her face to syringe it into her mouth was producing more cries of pain. Today she was a sad lump under my bed who didn't come out to greet me when I woke up or to eat when I opened a can of her favorite food, and neither of those are usual.
I'm pretty sure she snapped a tooth. Which means an emergency vet visit.
The cost for her last visit was base ($75/visit) plus pain meds and antibiotics. I don't know what she's going to need on the eighth, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be "more antibiotics and possibly (probably) an emergency tooth extraction."
I have five bucks in the bank. I can put most of the visit on CareCredit if need be, but I don't have the money for the visit and medication. I'm anticipating $150-200.
If you're willing to help me help my cat, I have PayPal, Ko-Fi, and Venmo.
I'd be incredibly grateful. And so would Phoebe.
maybe this is an unpopular opinion but i genuinely think not allowing your cats outside EVER is animal abuse
if cats aren't native to the area, they are harmful to the ecosystem, and if you live in areas with a lot of cars or traffic, it's dangerous to let them out on their own
TAKE. YOUR CAT. ON A WALK.
if your cat keeps trying to escape, and you don't have a garden/ your garden isn't safe for your cat to go out on, try leash training!
if your cat doesn't use its litter box, even if you have tried training them, that's a sign of stress! they may need to go outside every once in a while!
it also depends on the personality of the cat. Maybe they want to stay inside and they don't want to go out at all. that's cool. Not an issue with that. It's about keeping the cat caged against their will.
cats are predators, so they may need toys instead of going outside. you can also try that! I encourage you to! if it's the safest option and still keeps your cat healthy that's great!! good for you!! you don't even need to buy toys, anything that bounces and isn't too big or hard or heavy is great! (but try to check if it's safe for them to chew on)
but if with all that your cat is still unhappy,
TAKE YOUR CAT OUTSIDE. ON A WALK. ITS NOT HARMFUL I PROMISE!!!!
and don't bitch about people taking their cat outside if they're in an area where cats are native from. Cats have been in Italy for so long, i promise my cat going out in the country side to hunt rats (which ARE invasive in my area) isn't hurting the local ecosystem. removing one of the main predators from the environment is much more harmful. NOT EVERYONE IS AMERICAN FOR FUCKS SAKE. cats are ENCOURAGED to go outside in my area if it's safe by the local vets and even animal control.
cats aren't even a domesticated species the way dogs are AND PEOPLE STILL TAKE THEIR DOGS OUTSIDE. why is it so hard to think if doggy needs out, kitty may too?
Me showing off my adorable cat to anyone i come across ( hes amazing ) ❛˓◞˂̵
