Hey Catblr, what kind of harnesses do you like for kitties? I know they can slip out of the wrong kind... I’m checking out Foster & Smith for the cats’ Christmas presents bc they’re having Black Friday sales!!
Hi! On the topic of cats, I've recently been harness/leash training my cat so she can have some outdoor time. But the last time we were outside she saw something to chase and almost escaped her harness by struggling to free herself and keep hunting. :( Normally she's ok on her leash, but I got so freaked out by what happened. I'm terrified of her escaping so we haven't been out since. Do you have any tips to prevent this? She doesn't pay any attention to treats when we're outside either. :(
Oh jeeze, don’t blame you for being anxious! That’s one of my concerns with taking Ebony out too. I’m afraid I don’t have too much useful advice… the only thing I can think of is checking for other harness types to see if there’s another that might be harder for her to escape.
@vet-and-wild has harness trained their cat, maybe they might have some other tips?
Do you know anything about harnessing a grown cat? I have a harness but anytime I put it on him he just falls over
Not much personally - I was still quite young when we tried harness training my old cat & I haven’t started trying with Ebony yet. But catsindoors has some links to articles & such here that might help - http://catsindoors.tumblr.com/outdoor I know I’ve heard of that being a common response, it’s basically a helplessness response where they’re uncomfortable so they just don’t want to move & flop over. I would guess the way to help would be lots of positive reinforcement when the harness is on & make it a good thing where they get lots of treats & attention? But the articles & such should help more!
