Teaser from next chapter of 'the years have crawled by (and ive been alone all along)'

The next morning, Ellie left the house with Cat Joel hot on her heels. As he was used to being an outdoors cat, she didn't stop him and she felt it was cruel to just leave him alone after he adopted her.

She didn't know where to go, per se, but if she wanted to get better with people, then people she needed to be around. Plus, there were still plenty of folks who remembered her and they'd be wondering if she was okay no matter how much the thought of interaction terrified her. Ellie would just have to suck it up and throw herself into the deep end in order to reacclimate to the town.

At least she wasn't alone, Cat Joel reminded her of that by rubbing up against her leg, smooshing his cheek on her pants and rumbling so loud that she heard him from where her ears were. "Well, you needed to get out too, I guess." She mused and bent down briefly to scratch behind his ears, his purring somehow increasing in volume.

This is set in the verse of my tlou2 fic "the years have crawled by (and Ive been alone all along)

"Is that... singing?" JJ whispered to Dina after they closed the door. They'd just gotten home from their respective duties only to hear something coming from the kitchen, JJ had no idea what it was but Dina almost couldn't believe her ears.

Dina could feel the tears in her eyes as she beckoned JJ forward, urging him to be quiet so they wouldn't startle whoever was singing. He frowned but trusted his mother and they crept forward, pausing at the entrance and leaned in to see Ellie, sitting cross legged on the floor while holding Cat Joel's front paws and making him do a little jig. He looked unimpressed with her but let her do what she wanted anyways.

"*Cat Joel, Cat Joel does whatever a Cat Joel does.*" she sang, a little offkey but with laughter in her voice and her eyes squinting from the wide grin on her face. "*Can he dance? No he can't, but that's okay, he's a cutie... Pants?*" Ellie mumbled that last word to herself, unsure if it worked but then repeated her little song with more confidence.

Cat Joel meowed in protest, which finally set off JJ and Dina's laughter. Ellie flushed bright red as she scrambled up off the floor, Cat Joel running off to go hide somewhere so his human wouldn't make him dance anymore.
