So, I don't know if this would count as a "hot take" or as more of a "luke-warm take" but anyone (usually men, but really this isn't a gender thing) who "hates cats" is a red flag. I don't mean someone who prefers Dogs, or is allergic to cats, or things like that, but the people who treat hating cats as an aspect of their personality, always, always seem to be the same people who have problems with other people setting boundaries. I have heard it put that "Cats demand consent, and cannot be gaslit, and that is why people hate them." and I think there really is something to that. People who hate dogs are a little murkier because that "hate" of dogs can be bound up in fear of them, but there are tells on that side of things too. Like if your partner hates that your dog doesn't obey them (and not in a normal irritated "get off my face Harry!" way). Your partner tries to dominate your dog, and/or your dog displays unusually fearful behavior toward your partner. Those are all things to watch for, that are just as much red flags, but they are less likely to be apparent early on in a relationship. People who "hate cats" will often out and out announce it, and then get offended if you chose to distance yourself. In part because it is more culturally permissible to "hate cats" (which are associated with independence and as a companion for women) then it is to "hate dogs" (which are associated with slavish devotion and as a pet/tool for men).

So I guess where I am going with this is if your partner "hates cats" you need to think about what that means, and *why* they hate them, and if a potential partner expects you to get rid of your cat/s because *they* don't like them, then you should seriously think about weather or not they are a good partner.
