You were walking calmly through the Wangshu Inn. What were you looking for there at that time in the morning? Meet Xiao. You wanted to spend the day with him because why not? Then they could eat almond tofu together, it wasn't something the anemo boy was going to refuse, or so you hoped.
When you reached the top floor, which is where Xiao usually used to be, there was no sign of him. Instead, a cat was sitting on the railing, gazing out at the seemingly peaceful landscape. You had never seen it before, but there you already knew that there were several cats, so you did not give it much importance and with a feeling of slight disappointment you turned to leave the place.
A meow made you stop and tilt your head. The cat's yellow eyes were looking directly at you, as if penetrating your soul. You were able to appreciate the animal in more detail. Its fur was completely black, and it looked like velvet.
"Meow." When you least expected it, the feline was sitting in front of you with its tail neatly curled on its paws, and its little head was raised to look at your face.
You got down on your knees and brought a hand to the beautiful black cat, although you quickly had to withdraw it because a snort came from his mouth. "Okay, okay. I get it. You don't like being touched." you gave a little laugh. "But what are you doing here alone, little one?"
The animal let out a harsh meow and was now walking towards the steps of the inn. He turned his head to look at you.
"Do you want to go somewhere?" you were quite surprised. It really looked like that cat was communicating with you, or maybe you were already going a little crazy.
You followed it without thinking much more.

You spent a day with the strange cat. If you didn't follow it, it was the animal that was walking with its little paws behind you, as if it didn't want to let you go.
When evening came, you were under the shade of a large tree. You were lying with your hands clasped on your chest, and the cat was tirelessly chasing a butterfly, with its pupils dilated with excitement. You just laughed watching the scene.
The little insect finally escaped, and the black cat approached you with a calm step. You brought your hand closer again, in a new attempt to caress it. Would it allow you this time?
The cat reflexively lowered its ears and body a little, but your hand was able to touch the soft dark fur it had. As you ran your hand from its head to its back, its body arched, conforming perfectly to the path your hand traveled through its body.
"Oh, do you see how a little affection never hurts? You didn't have to be so grumpy.~" With a smile you put your hand on your chest again. "I like you. How about I give you a name?" The cat sat down, as if looking at you waiting for his name.
"Hmm ..." you narrowed your eyes, taking a good look at the cat. "Shadow? No. Very common. Panther? No way. I'm too bad at naming."
You closed your eyes, giving up to think more. And then, a sudden inspiration came to you.
"I know." you watched it as you straightened up a bit, remaining seated with your back leaning against the tree trunk. "I found you in the same place where I usually meet a good friend of mine. I would call you Xiao, but I don't think he likes to share a name with a cat. I will call you Guardian. You will be my little guardian and defend me from enemies, right? "
How is it possible that you took so much love for an animal in just one day? You did not know, but what was certain was that when that cat looked at you, his eyes lit up somehow. Appreciation? Affection? Okay, you may definitely be crazy.
The cat snuggled into your lap. A purr came from the animal, which calmed you down and made you fall asleep little by little.

You woke up feeling a weight on your legs. When you opened your eyes half asleep, the cat was not there. It was... Xiao?
The boy was lying down and resting his head on your lap while his relaxed features indicated that he was asleep. You almost screamed with fright, but you just jumped with your heart pounding.
The boy raised his head in a daze. "B-but... Xiao? What are you doing here? For the Seven, you scared the hell out of me." The confused and sleepy boy looked at his hands, as if he didn't believe he was human again. A slight blush appeared on his cheeks and ears.
He knew there was no need to explain, you already understood everything. What didn't make sense was how he turned into an animal just like that. The yellow-eyed one leaned his back against the tree next to you. He couldn't look at your face in shame.
"Y/N." He said to your surprise. His voice was low but softer than normal.
"About the stupid name you gave me. Of course I will defend you from enemies. You just have to say my name and I will appear by your side, you know that."
A slight smile appeared on your lips. "But which do I say? Your real name or your cat name?" you joked while tilting your head, managing to see his flustered, as well as cute profile.
"Do not joke with me." He cocked his head too, and you couldn't resist reaching out to him and touching his cheek, as if it were the cat. He snuggled his face into your hand to your surprise. "Thanks... it feels good... I mean... Forget it." He paused and pulled away with his face even redder than before.
"Let's meet tomorrow too." he uttered as he got up and walked away from you. The boy glanced at you over his shoulder before disappearing completely.
