Introduction and Week 1!

This is an ongoing flashfic challenge for works of about 100 - 1,000 words in the Loki (TV 2021) fandom. New prompts are posted each Wednesday on this tumblr and each prompt is open for one week.

You have the choice to post your fic in the AO3 collection and/or on tumblr or any other site; if you aren't using the AO3 collection, you can send a submission with a link to your story so that others can find it here.

Your prompt for the week of August 25 - September 1, inspired by both the Loki S1 finale and perhaps certain recently unveiled film trailers, is:

Long Way Home

You are free to interpret the prompts however you like. There is a soft limit of 1,000 words per work, though you can write as many as you like. There are no requirements in terms of characters or pairings, as long as it's a fic for this show.

time keeps on tickin'

Hey readers, thank you for your patience with the break in posts as various life events have kept me occupied. First, as always, let me direct you to the collection and its wild and wonderful variety of stories posted so far — we now have 25 works there from this challenge!

Even before my posting schedule here started falling off, the volume of new fic for the Loki series has naturally been waning as the long between-seasons hiatus rolls along. And so, to go along with that sort of hibernation cycle, I'm shifting the comm into more of a fallow mode: The collection is now open for fic responding to any of the existing prompts, and will remain so with no end date in sight.

When the fandom's activity level picks back up again — probably as we start getting new information about Season 2, although who knows what surprises could be lurking before then! — the weekly prompts will be back too. Until then, here once again is the list of all the 2021 prompts:

Just a couple reminders: I’m not out here with a ruler or anything, but this is a flashfic challenge for works of up to about 1,000 words. The limitations are part of the fun of the challenge! If you do find yourself inspired with a story going a long way beyond that suggested limit, consider whether you still have an entry for the flashfic challenge collection on your hands. You can always post a longer piece on its own with a mention of the prompt that originally inspired you.

Same goes if you end up creating anything else inspired by the challenge that falls outside the parameters — say you have something after the deadline and you don't want to wait around for Amnesty, or if one of the prompts gives you an idea to write something in another fandom — that's cool, more fic in the world is always good! You can post that wherever and whenever and just add a note on your work mentioning that it began with one of these challenge prompts, although it's not like I'll know if you don't, it just seems like it would be good manners.

When do you think you might do an amnesty week? I wrote something for the first two weeks but in both cases wasn't able to actually finish my fics in time. 😬

Probably sooner than I anticipated! 😅 In the meantime, I’m glad to hear the prompts are giving you some inspiration. Hope you’ve been able to check out what other writers have posted to the collection as well!
