ForYourArt hosted a launch for the Liz Glynn: No Second Troy exhibition catalogue along with a special screening of Glynn’s video Untitled Epic Poem (after Homer on the shores of Gallipoli).
The exhibition itself covered the political controversy of Priam’s Treasure – the supposed Gold of Troy, plundered from Turkey by Germany in the nineteenth century – and continuing cultural impacts of relations between these two countries. Curated by Ciara Ennis, Glynn’s show explored both the goods and the people that have been imported from Turkey into Germany as well as contemporary cultural artifacts and the hybridized cultural identities that have ensued.
Comprised of images from Glynn’s videos, installations, and sculptural works, the catalogue also includes an interview between Machine Project Executive Director Mark Allen and Glynn, in addition to essays by Dean of the School of Art at Cal Arts, Thomas Lawson, and Director/Curator at Pitzer Art Galleries, Ciara Ennis.
