Firstly, Catalan “independentistas” have no intent of cutting Catalonia off from Europe or their European heritage, or even from Spain for that matter, this is pure fear mongering.
Secondly, yes Catalans like others in Spain vote according to the law, however the Catalan Government has been asking for years for a legal vote on the issue and the Spanish Government has refused outright to even discuss the matter. All legal options have been withheld from the people of Catalonia, and now the Spanish Government wants to wag their finger at them?
Thirdly, Mendez de Vigo testifies that "nothing has been done" speaking of standardized procedures in Catalonia in preparation for the vote. This is 100% false, Ballots were produced, summons sent to citizens to serve as officials in voting stations to ensure voters rights and prevent fraud, polls established and created, ballot boxes and procedures organized for the collection and transportation of ballots to counting offices, ALL HAS BEEN DONE! However the Spanish Government has confiscated ballots, ballot boxed, summons, closed down websites and blocked the transmission of voting information to the citizens and in general attempt to destroy all procedures and organization created.
And Fourthly, he states "this government is always ready to talk", the Spanish Government has been completely UNWILLING to talk about independence by any means peaceful or legal. They have turned down every attempt at diplomacy.
