Meow Mishap: The Surprising Danger of Cat Bites 🐱😱

Hey there, fellow cat lovers! 👋

Did you know that those adorable little nibbles from your furry friend could be more dangerous than you think? Let's talk about why cat bites are no joke!

🦷 Cat Bite 101: • Tiny but deep wounds • Quick healing (sounds good, right? Wrong!) • Traps bacteria under the skin (yikes!)

🦠 The Villain: Pasteurella This nasty bacteria loves to hang out in cat mouths and can cause some serious trouble if it gets under your skin.

⚠️ Danger Signs: • Swelling and pain • Redness around the bite • Fever or chills

🚑 What to Do If Bitten:

Wash the wound thoroughly (5+ minutes under running water)

Head to the doctor ASAP

Don't skip the antibiotics if prescribed!

Remember: Even your sweet indoor kitty can pack a bacterial punch. Always take bites seriously!

What a wild three weeks!!

As some of you already know, my father suffered a stroke On Tuesday, Nov. 13th and then had three more strokes within two days. He is in rehabilitation now and actually doing very well. He is being transferred to a rehab center closer to my home tomorrow, and my mother, who is in advanced stages of Alzheimer's will be moving into the same facility in their Memory Care Unit on Saturday. 

This past Sunday I was taking care of my dad’s feline babies (trying to find homes for them) and was putting them into pet carriers when one of them attacked me and literally bit my right hand.  I thought nothing of it and cleaned the wounds and put on neosporin and bandages, with no other thought about it.

Monday morning I awoke and my entire hand was swollen twice it’s size and throbbing in extreme pain.  Long story short...went to ER and was admitted to the hospital. Apparently I had five bites and two of them hit blood vessels in my hand and bacteria set in.  I had streaks running up my arm.  Blood cultures showed two separate types of bacteria in my bloodstream and moving quickly throughout my bloodstream!!

After three days of four different types of intravenous antibiotics, my hand is almost normal again, and the infection has slowed down to a crawl.  I am home now with limited use of my right hand (can’t tell with the length of this post though, can you?) However, the doctors say I should heal completely within the next seven days.

I am returning to my stories, and getting ready for the 2nd installment of The Gay Bachelor, as my Sims are my reprieve, and Tumblr is my therapy. I may not get everything caught up as quickly as I would like, but I’m back!!

And as a PSA---

if you are bit by a cat, regardless of how small or uneventful you may think it is, GET IT CHECKED OUT!!  The doctor explained to me that scratches are somewhat dangerous, but can be treated at home, however bites can be EXTREMELY dangerous. 90% of all cats bites require some form of hospitalization due to the bacteria cats carry in their mouths and put into your body with their pin like teeth.  Trust me, if it EVER happens to me again, I will immediately go to the nearest ER!
