Here's a wild bit of history for ya...

Abraham Lincoln was a skilled catch wrestler! (Or, catch-as-catch-can). He was county wrestling champion at the age of 21 and had a 300-1 record!

He is in the National Wrestling HOF, too!

(I discovered this random fact while playing a trivia game and it blew my mind, so I researched/fact checked it).

Born in Iowa in 1861, Martin "Farmer" Burns was a Catch Wrestling World Champion, coach, author, and arguably the best pound for pound grappler of his generation.

George "Con" O'Kelly, who won gold in the heavyweight division in “Catch-as-Catch-Can” wrestling at the 1908 Olympics.

Fun fact: Early professional and catch-as-catch-can wrestling legend Martin “Farmer” Burns (who was the teacher of the first recognized NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Frank Gotch), was also a strongman whose greatest feat of strength was being able to survive a 6 foot hangman’s drop due to his overly developed 20 inch neck. This also made him next to impossible to choke out in matches.
