Prompto/Noctis; 864w, GPrompto wished, so hard sometimes, that there was an offswitch for his overthinking, because he was really sick of it by now;it was stupid, and annoying, but he just couldn’t banish thethoughts. It was stupid, because he was just with Noct, his best bud,and there was nothing about that that was worth fretting about. Heknew that, kept trying to remind himself. The thing was, this was thefirst time he was spending the night at Noctis’ place. And that, toPrompto, was kind of a big deal. He’d never spent the night ata friend’s place before. He’d never had a friend, before Noctis, tohave sleepovers with in the first place. Ew, no, don’t think of itas a sleepover, he told himself. You’re not twelve any more. This is two best buds, hangingout. Also, it’s convenient. Theyhad plans for tomorrow, it being a Saturday and all, and Noctis hadsuggested it earlier in the week, all casual, as if it was no bigdeal. “Hey, why don’t you just spend the night at mine? It’ll be easier that way.”Sure, it sounded great.Until Prompto was there, and he just, didn’t know what to do with himself. They’d eaten already, called infor pizza – neither of them was going to attempt to cook, that wasfor sure – and Prompto had allowed himself to indulge in moresnacks than he was comfortable with, in an attempt to ease his suddennervousness. Everything else that evening had been normal though, forthem, playing video games, watching crap TV, just the general, easyplaying around they always indulged in when they hung out. Whichhelped keep Prompto distracted, until bed time. Which was, inessence, the point where one of them was falling asleep on the couch, and they’d given up trying to focus on anything in particular, infomercials loudly selling mops playing in the background.Noctishad nodded off, head resting against Prompto’s shoulder as he dozed, until the commercial changed and an innovative, new snack pot wasbeing shouted about now from the television, and startled Noctisawake. Prompto kinda missed the warm pressure of Noct’s weightagainst his shoulder. With a yawn and a stretch, Noctisdeclared, “I’m off to bed. You got everything you need inhere?”Prompto was going to sleep on the couch, and they’dpiled up pillows and blankets for him earlier, ready to use. Heturned to look over at Noctis, flashing his friend a smile. “Yep,I’m all set!” Perhaps he was trying too hard, becauseNoctis peered at him, sleepy but concerned. “You alright?”Prompto tried to smile a little less hard as he answered,“Great, great. Yeah, dude. You go sleep! I’ll just…I’ll just hangout here. And sleep too. Yeah.”If Noctis had been moreawake, he might have said something about Prompto’s obviously weirdbehaviour – weirder than normal, would be Noct’s affectionateopinion – but he just gave Prompto a bemused look, before shakinghis head. “Sure. See you in the morning.”“Night!”Prompto chirped, watching as Noctis retreated into his bedroom.Prompto busied himself with setting up his make-shift bed onthe couch, and soon he was snuggled down in the warm blankets, thetelevision on but turned down low, just as some sound to keep himcompany. He was just beginning to relax, feel his mind stop turningenough to possibly let him sleep, when his phone buzzed, surprisinghim. No one messaged him this late except for Noct. No one messagedhim at all anyway, except Noct.It was Noct.Noctis:Just relax, weirdoPrompto: What!!!I’m fine!!Noctis:You’re being weird. Justchill out. It’s only my couchPromptobit his lip, before replyingPrompto:…how’d you know?Noctis:I can hear your thoughtsfrom herePrompto:Lies!! Filthy lies! (〃ノωノ)Noctis: Justgo to sleep.Hedidn’t even consider that it might be weird, the two of them textinglike this, even though Noctis was only down the hall in his bedroom.Maybe it was easier, to talk like this through text messages. Hehesitated for a few moments, before typing out another message, hoping that Noctis wouldn’t make fun of him for this.Prompto:It’s just…I’ve never spent the night anywhere but homebeforeTherewas a painfully long gap, and Prompto had given Noct up for asleep, before his phone lit up again, buzzed to life with anothermessage.Noctis:I’ve never had anyone spend the night beforePromptocouldn’t help but smile at that, at Noctis being honest like thatwith him, he could just imagine the flush of colour that was probablycrawling up his friend’s neck in that moment. It meant a lot, comingfrom Noctis. Another buzz pulled Prompto from histhoughts.Noctis: Nowgo to sleep. I’m tiredPrompto:Night, Noct! (ノ^ω^)ノ゚Promptoput his phone down, and settled himself to sleep, his mind at ease, and a wide, silly smile spread across his face. He hoped this mightbe the first night of many, now he knew what to expect.
