Making promises Ones that could have been kept If I stayed the course And you had not taken the wrong bearing The slickness of water on oil And the way that they sank together The things I wish I had said The things you shouldn't have said God damn us both.

Mimicry is the highest form of flattery And misandry could’ve done us both some good But misanthropy would have been better Would’ve made it all the simpler To put that key in the lock And jiggle the doorknob And leave me on the porch And maybe make things all that much-

Give up on all notions of love I kicked you to the curb You pulled at my skin And I asked Who the Hell you were to try And you said you would save me And for all that I could say Everything I could conceive I was the one left bruised And you the one left bleeding And we wondered Why.
