The gloves are off. You know what that means, this time around. Cate wraps her long, slender fingers—she would have made an exceptional pianist, if she hadn't been too neglected by her mother and father to be enrolled in the lessons—over Kate's shoulder, around where her collarbone is.

When Cate tries to access Henrike Bane's thoughts, to predict what psycho-emotional ploy Henrike might utilize next, she feels as if she's swimming through jello - or even mud. Yet there's something calming to it - a tranquility from not knowing what the fuck is going on. Ignorance has never been bliss for Cate because ignorance has always been impossible. This is refreshing.

THE FACT IS NOT LOST ON CATE THAT MAEVE—MAGGIE—CAN PROBABLY SEE THE EXACT SPOT ON HER BODY WHERE HER PROSTHETIC ATTACHES, OR THE SCAR TISSUE ON HER SCALP. The former is covered by her gloves, the latter by her hair. But to Cate, Queen Maeve's powers are nearly equivalent to Homelander's.
She'll put on a brave face all the same. Like Brave Maeve would have wanted Cate to, before this disillusioned-with-Vought nonsense.

CATE DOUBTS THAT SHE AND DAISY HAVE ANYTHING IN COMMON AT ALL. She's no longer stooping to the level of average citizens. She doesn't have to sacrifice her integrity, her superiority, to make them feel comfortable.
But she does have to pretend, sometimes.
"I've always been careful," Cate admits, which is true. The gloves. The changing of her major from Crimefighting to Hero Management. The lying, the lying, the lying.
"And I'm only doing what's best for our country."

Cate's eyes flick from the left to the right. Fortunately, Cate and Sam have been powdered and mic'd; they are now alone. They're often left to their own devices. Truth be told: I think, together, they make the rest of the cast and crew nervous.
So, fine. Cate'll bite. She sighs.
"Wrath makes it sound like—a sin. Like what we're doing is wrong." She, gloves on, catches his wrist, then his gaze. "And there's nothing wrong about you, or about me. We're doing what's necessary. What's right. From the very beginning. At the very core of it. Other people don't understand. Do you?"
