There are many different ways of setting up a catfish rig for catfishing and one popular way of doing so is a slip sinker rig. Like many things with fishing one can have many different names or slang terms and the Carolina catfish rig is certainly one of these items.

Bass fishermen refer to a setup using a sliding bullet weight and leader commonly used for fishing soft plastics as a Carolina rigging but a similar setup is commonly used for catfishing and is referred to as a slip sinker rig. The three way rig is probably the most well known catfish rigs and despite it's popularity remains one of my least favorite catfish rigs and one of the least favorite among many hardcore catfish anglers.

The 3 way rig can be a good choice in certain applications but most find it cumbersome and less effective than other popular setups like slip sinker rig and santee rig.

Despite this lack of popularity many anglers insist on fishing with this setup and because it is so well known many anglers are often seeking more information on the 3 way rig, how to tie it and what applications and techniques to use it for when catfishing.
