Did You Know - The Inventor of the Fidget Spinner?
The fidget spinner, a popular toy amongst children and adults alike and a well-known tool for individuals with ADHD, was actually invented by a chemical engineer named Catherine Hettinger. She invented the first fidget spinner in the early 1990s as a way to entertain her seven-year-old daughter and also as a calming device for herself as she was suffering from an autoimmune disorder which caused muscle weakness.
Catherine Hettinger held the patent for the fidget spinner until 2005 but had to give it up because she couldn't afford the $400 renewal fee. Little did she know, a decade later, the fidget spinner would take the world by storm, becoming a multi-million dollar industry.
So, next time you spin a fidget spinner, think about Catherine Hettinger and her simple invention that spun out of control!
