Kronos fucks Ethan while holding his sensitive, erogenous zone wings as handlebars or to pin him down. It's painful, overstimulating and Kronos grips them so hard that feathers are always falling from them while they fuck. Ethan is lying there feeling not only the pain and pleasure of being fucked, and not only the pain and pleasure of his wings being grabbed like that, but also the terrible shame of it all. as far as i can remember, the only time ive talked about catholic!ethan is when i made that joke about how ethan couldve been a hot priest if he hadnt died, then bread (@m4gp13) made this hilarious post about priest ethan using catholicism to win the idgaf war against olympus LMFAOOOO

however extensive conversations about catholic ethan have indeed been had 😁 bread threw around some ideas of mr nakamura possibly having been a priest who was defrocked because [gestures to ethan] and just ethan in general having had a religious upbringing. this results in a very interesting cumulation of shame and a crisis of faith because not only is ethan a child out of wedlock, he’s a child of a pagan figure. to cope with it, ethan ends up developing some uh concerning ideas of suffering and martyrdom especially in the name of what he thinks is the mission/purpose of his life. and in the spirit of the martyred saints he spent his childhood reading about, he’s very willing to let nemesis yoink his eye. if you take into consideration his being queer as well, that causes some more gnarly stuff too.

it also creates a very interesting dynamic for ethan and kronos, who's been around since the dawn of time. i made a joke about ethan once going to confession (more for the comfort/familiarity of the ritual than out of actual faith) sometime before the battle of manhattan to ease his conscience, only for kronos to be waiting for him outside the church like a lost guard dog. "why are you praying to other gods, I thought we had smth special :(" or whatever HAHAHAHAHAH joke it may be, but thats the general idea of their dynamic

then ofc hot priest ethan is an offshoot of catholic ethan. 😂 breakup (kronos) so bad you become religious again. he'll kill a monster AND exorcise a demon, dont test him

as an occasional ethico enjoyer who's obsessed with catholic!Ethan, I don't talk enough about them in the context of religious homoeroticism. I love aus where Ethan survives and sticks around and repressed little Nico who was obsessed with pirates and greek heroes (also smth smth renaissance artists using a lot of similar practices and iconography with depicting saints and depicting greek heroes/gods), sees Ethan as this cool elder queer. Ethan is mildly irritated that he didn't get martyred during the war and is trying very hard to move on and do something with his life and Nico keeps staring at him the way he used to stare at crucifixes above doorways or martyred saints in windows.

He's part of something bigger than himself, so big that it swallows him whole and grinds him to dust. He knows he's only one part of a bigger picture but he also knows that he has a role to play in making that big picture a reality, and he's so dedicated to that role that he gets consumed by it. He sacrifices his identity and parts of himself, and you could argue that him sacrificing his eye specifically represents him sacrificing his own vision of the world to see only Nemesis' vision. She's his god and he's her angel or her priest.

Actually him being a kind of metaphorical priest to Nemesis is so perfect. He sacrifices so much of his own identity and freedom and views to be just a vessel for enforcing her will in the world. She's a deity, this larger than life, *coughs* vast figure to whom he has dedicated everything. And his dedication to her kills him in the most Vast way possible, hurtling from Olympus through the wide endless sky.

thinking about former catholic Ethan who had a crisis of faith after realising he's a demigod and subconsciously replacing religion with his mother, but having grown up in the church, he still looks back fondly at it and sees the church as a place of comfort and stability, which he now lacks. Part of him hates it because he knows that all those years were spent praying to nothing, but it was such an integral part of his upbringing that he can't just abandon it. He can't help but crave the purity of holiness, and it's why he's so willing to sacrifice, his eye, his life. He's still in crisis mode, and the only solution he can think of to resolve it, to make himself right, pure, holy, is to martyr himself. He's devoting his life to different gods, but the method is the same.

First he gets thrown into a near-deaath situation by his own army and rescued from it by an enemy of that army, and then he goes back to the army to get killed for realsies this time after confronting the army's leader.
