[Tower infirmary]

Cathy: — Fufu, I see. What a delightful boy

Gast: He sure is. Though when I first met him, I thought he was super cool and stand-offish

But livin’ together in the same room’s let me see all kindsa sides to him, and it turns out he’s a really funny guy

Cathy: I’d like to have the chance to chat with Ren-kun myself at some point

Gast: I bet you’d be able t’ have a real good conversation with him. You two kinda run at the same tempo, if ya know what I mean

Cathy: It’s such a relief to know that you’re surrounded by so many wonderful friends

Gast: I didn’t really know you were worried about that, but… I’m real blessed to have a lot of good guys around me, so ya can rest easy

[Door opens]

Junior: Huh? Gast, what’re you doin’ here…

Gast: Junior?

Junior: Oh right, your Mom’s here right now, isn’t she?

Gast: Yeah, but… What’re you doin’ here?

Junior: Here. I ran into Victor in the hall, and he asked me to bring this to the infirmary

Cathy: Oho, is that his thesis? It’s awfully boring in the hospital, so Victor-kun said he’d put it together for me

Junior: He said it was kind of a pain to use a tablet, so he just gave me a ton of paper…. Hyup. There we go

Cathy: Thanks for this. I had no contact at all with Substance while I was with Thonis, so I’ve been curious how research into it has developed since then

And thanks to you, too, for going out of your way to bring this to me

Junior: Gehk… It was kind of annoying to have this foisted on me, but I really can’t complain if you say something like that

Cathy: Wait a second…? Have we met somewhere before?

Junior: You mean me? No, I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve seen you face to face

Cathy: Really? You just look so very familiar

Gast: This is Leonard Wright Jr. He’s the great Leonard Wright’s son

Cathy: Oh! That’s it! You’re the spitting image of Leonard!

Junior: Uuu….

Gast: Uh. He doesn’t really like bein’ compared to his dad, so why don’t we find somethin’ else to talk about

Cathy: Ah, oh my. I’m sorry…. I was just so happy…

Junior: You know my dad?

Gast: You know how he was real close with my old man, right? It was pretty much inevitable that Mom spent a lotta time with them back then

Cathy: Back when we were just childhood friends, Harvey told me he wanted to introduce me to a friend of his from the Academy. That’s when I met Leonard

And there I was thinking he didn’t have any friends other than me! You can imagine my surprise!

And then out he came with this incredibly cheerful, funny, popular guy. By all appearances, he was the exact opposite of Harvey

Junior: Th-that’s a hell of a way to say it. Is that really okay…?

Gast: It’s fine. That’s what I thought too

Cathy: Leonard was so very popular back in those days. Though it certainly seems that hasn’t changed now, either

Junior: ……

Gast: H-hey, Mom… Ummm, do ya have any stories about Dad?

Cathy: Huh?

Gast: It’s not like I wanna hear about him all the time, but I was thinkin’ maybe just one would be alright. Only as much as yer willin’ to tell, of course

Cathy: ….Alright. I haven’t had many chances to tell you about some of the fun times we had together, have I?

Gast: No…

Cathy: Back when he was a student, he was so serious and practically overflowing with this sense of justice

One time, he got tangled up with some ruffians in the street, and instead of driving them off he approached them and told them to knock it off

Gast: Really?

Cathy: He said he wouldn’t leave until they swore to stop being bad and promised to quit stirring up trouble

Junior: Sounds like back in his student days, he was nothing like he is now, huh Gast?

Gast: A..haha…

Cathy: He was stubborn and reckless too, no doubt about that, but when we were together, he really was reliable

When I heard he was second only to Leonard in popularity at the Academy, I was practically swallowed up by my insecurities

Junior: Th-that was totally not something you needed to hear. Who would say something like that?

Cathy: Leonard

Junior: Of course he did…

Cathy: When he found out about that, Harvey did everything in his power to put my mind at ease

He called me every day without fail, walked with me everywhere I needed to go, showered me with gifts and compliments…

Gast: Uhh…. Um. I think I’ve heard enough for now. Yeah.

Cathy: I’m sorry…! I got a little lost in the memory, didn’t I?

Gast: Yeah, that’s uh, plenty of food for thought

I definitely can’t handle hearin’ so much all at once, but maybe if we do them one at a time… Let me hear more another day

Cathy: Gast….

[Phone rings]

Gast: ! …Huh, it’s from Akira?

What’s up? Yeah, yeah…. Hah?

Ah– …Alright, alright. Guess there’s no helpin’ it…. I’ll head to the gym in a little bit, then

I was plannin’ to go later anyway… Yup. Cool, see ya soon

Junior: He wants you to go to the gym?

Gast: Yeah. Said he was dyin’ of boredom or somethin’

You wanna come too?

Junior: I’ll pass. I’ve got band practice with Nii-chan after this

Gast: Gotcha. Then I guess I’m off to the gym for a bit, Mom

I’ll come by again soon

Cathy: Have fun, dear

Junior: Hehe ♪ When it comes to bein’ popular, I guess Gast’s just like his dad

Cathy: Oh really…?

Junior: It’s not just the other rookies, either. There’s tons of people in the city who look up to him. He’s kinda like everyone’s older brother, always super reliable when you need him

Cathy: …His father, too, was the sort of man who could never say no to a friend in need

Well, the only one who would call him without a thought in the world was your father, though

Junior: Geh…

Cathy: Fufu, they always looked like they were having so much fun when they were together. I loved watching them

I loved seeing him cherish his friends… I hope Gast can live like that too

Junior: You’ve got nothing to worry about there

He takes good care of his friends, and his friends take good care of him, too. That’s just the kinda guy he is

Cathy: Fufu. Thank you, Leonard Wright Jr.
