It’s raining 雨が降っている But there’s the cat yes, that cat splashing in the rain でも、あの猫――そう、あの猫が雨の中でバシャバシャ遊んでいる

I call out, “Hey! What are you doing? You’re going to get even more wet than you already are!” 「おい！」と私は叫んだ 「何してるの？もうびしょ濡れなのに、もっと濡れちゃうよ！」

The cat stops for a moment, just standing there, thinking. Then it says, “I can’t get wet. These boots,” it added, “were certified All-Weather Protection” 猫はしばらく立ち止まり、じっと考え込んでいた それから言った 「濡れないよ。このブーツ、全天候対応って書いてあったから」

With a smug look of satisfaction, it went back to playing… only to sneeze in rapid succession 満足げな顔で、また遊びに戻っていった… と思ったら、くしゃみを連発した

Achoo! Achoo! Achoo! ハクション！ ハクション！ ハクション！

“Well,” it muttered, “perhaps they don’t cover the nose.” 「ふむ」と猫はつぶやいた 「鼻まではカバーしてなかったか」

I saw a cat wearing boots

ブーツを履いた猫を見かけた

And I asked it how it rode the world today.

そして、今日この世界をどうやって乗りこなしたのか尋ねた

It looked at me with a Cheshire grin,

チェシャー猫のような笑みを浮かべてこちらを見て、

Yawned, and fell back to sleep again

あくびをひとつして、また眠りについた

I thought to myself:

私は思った

Maybe the world hasn't stopped

もしかすると、世界はまだ、

Breaking its back,

背中を折りながら、

Just trying to please him

彼を喜ばせようとしているのかもしれない
