There is a cat museum in Amsterdam, KattenKabinet (Cat Cabinet). You can take virtual tour here. Somehow I didn’t know this until several days into my visit to the city, but I found my way there and walked through the curious, weird, exciting halls of the place.
I saw a costume from Cats. Grizabella? The American Museum of Natural History appears to have the real one on display so not sure about the origins of this one:
There is also an alter of sorts where people leave tokens and love notes to cats. I left a note about Alexandria (Stubby) who died in 2018, and a message about my dad who I know would’ve enjoyed visiting the wacky place.
I took a picture of myself inside, looking out. I looked for cats and found a few as you can see in some of these pictures of the courtyard.
I lingered on the stairways, taking it all in.
The second all vegan grocery store I went to was the vegan deli Vegabond where you can order from their menu or shop from a small grocery.
I remember my afternoon between the cat museum and making my way over to the deli as a hurried one. I remember asking if I could charge my phone at the deli and fortunately the person working there was happy to help me out. There is something very humbling about handing your phone over to a stranger in a strange town to charge your phone.
While the phone charged I caught my breath, had a snack and decided where I might go next.
