Hello! Just dropping in to say thanks for the latest chapter of Experimentation I'm still reeling fam. it's too good! How was it writing it? Any BTS you can share with us? Like was there anything that you cut out, changed, or even struggled with? Anyway, hope you're doing well and having a good summer! :)
Aww, thank you!!! I’m really happy you enjoyed the last chapter!! Because let me tell you... the entire thing was a struggle.
Well, no. That’s a lie. Everything right up until they get out of the cab at their hotel when they’re going back to get Beca changed was fine. Fun, even. Once they were in the elevator, things started to get... tense? for me. Because like... I knew where this was going. I’d known where this scene was going for the last... 3 and a half years? This had been planned for A WHILE. And then poof, it was finally here.
And it was like fucking performance anxiety. I have multiple people that can vouch for this; every time I sat down to write the hotel room scene, my anxiety would spike through the fucking roof and I’d get maybe one or two words out before I’d have to get up and leave the desk.
Honestly, writing it was kinda of terrifying. I’ve never struggled like that with a chapter before, not to that level. Not to sound dramatic, but it actually almost gave me panic attacks every time I sat down to write it!!
I think, when it comes down to it, it was simply because I’d built that scene up so much in my head, to where it was basically perfect and I could see it all play out like a movie. And then I was just... paralyzed by the idea that whatever I wrote, was never going to live up to what was in my head. It couldn’t be as perfect as I’d made it in there. I think I was just scared to mess something up or forget something or... man, I don’t even know anymore. But it was bad. It took me a long time to write that scene, little bits at a time, but I did it! Haha.
