Ōdī et amō. Quārē id faciam fortasse requīris. Nesciŏ, sed fierī sentiō et excrucior
I hate and I love. Why I do this, perhaps you ask. I know not, but I feel it happening and I am tortured

Catullus
I chose the song Love on the Brain by Rihanna because it related to Catullus 85 or Lesbia VI. Catullus talks about his love and hate and how it tortured him in this poem. Rihanna talks about how the love she has for someone is ultimately torturing her and beats her.
“And babe I’m fist-fighting with fire Just to get close to you Can we burn something babe’
“OdI et amo. Quare id facial, frotase requirió. Nescio, Sed fieri sentio et excrucior.”
Latin Project - Catullus 85
In Catullus 85, he writes about the hate he has for his ex but the love that lingers for her.
“Odi et amō.”
“I hate and I love”
Similarly, Miley Cyrus sings about how she hates that she can’t help but love the man she’s singing about.
“And the seventh thing I hate the most that you do You make me love you”
Both Catullus and Miley Cyrus talk about how they hate and love someone. They are both confused about the feelings they hare having. At the end of the song she says "the seven things I like about you," showing that she still likes the person, but hates him at the same time. Just like Catullus, Miley hates and loves and is confused about her feelings for this "special" person.
"Odi et amo..."
Catullus 85
« Odi et amo. Quare id faciam, fortasse requiris. Nescio. Sed fieri sentio et excrucior. » -Catullus « I hate and I love. Why may ask ? I don't know. But it happens and I burn. » -Micheletto
Sad
It's really sad when you're studying Catullus in class and each poem that your translating has everything to do what you're feeling that day.
My favorite Catullus poem to date is 85:
Odi et amo. Quare id faciam, fortasse requiris. nescio, sed fieri sentio et excrucior
