Sophia, the Fox and the NYPD
7am Monday morning found Sophia blearily making her way to her desk at the 18th precinct. It was a good thing she lived mere blocks away in Hell’s Kitchen, or else she would’ve been late. Taking a huge swig of coffee, she sat down at her desk for all of thirty seconds before the Captain was standing in front of her.
“ Another one. Central Park, this time in the North Woods. All the markings of..well, you know. A spree, among other things,” the Captain trailed off, raising an eyebrow. Sophia nodded, taking another chug of coffee. Magic was never referred to outright in the NYPD. Magical beings were ‘specialists’ or ‘experts’. Sometimes even ‘consultants’. Magic activity was always referred to as ‘other things’ or ‘completely out of the ordinary.’
“ So we’re going to need your nature expertise. And since this looks like it’s the start of a spree..we’re calling in a consultant to work with you. Thing is, he works best at night, and since the crimes are being committed at night, so til further notice you’re on nights. This case is your only focus til it’s solved, got it? So shoo, see you at 7.” With that, the Captain stomped back to her office, slamming the door.
Sighing, Sophia got up slowly and grabbed her stuff. Taking her time, she listened to the chatter around her, and it was mostly about the case.
7pm came way too quickly, and not quickly enough. After grabbing her gear, her phone pinged: it was her Captain, telling her to head to the latest crime scene, and that she would meet the consultant there. So by 7:15, Sophia had gotten to the scene of the last murder, and was starting to gather her findings.
