CAYLEE ANTHONY
CAYLEE ANTHONY
9 August 2005 – June 2008
Caylee, 2, was the American daughter of single mother Casey Anthony who lived in Orlando, Florida, US with her parents. On 15 July Caylee was reported missing by her grandmother (Caylee’s mother) Cindy who said that she had not seen Caylee for 31 days. Caylee’s grandparents discovered that Casey’s car was at a tow yard, George went to pick it up and the couple noticed the smell coming from the trunk which smelt like a dead body had been inside the trunk. Cindy called the police and reported Caylee missing and informed them about the smell.
Cindy said Casey had given different explanations as to Caylee’s whereabouts before telling her that she hadn’t seen Caylee for weeks. Her father, George, said that Casey left the family home on 16 June taking Caylee with her. Casey told authorities she was working at Universal Studios which was one of Casey’s many lies.
In December, Caylee’s remains were found inside a trash bag near the family home by a meter reader. There was duct tape found near the front of the skull on the mouth and her blanket.
Casey was arrested for murder, she pled not guilty. Hair from a deceased person was found in the trunk of Casey’s car and the trunk showed chemical compounds from a decomposition event as well as chloroform. During investigation there had been Google searches on the family’s computer, searches for ‘neck breaking’ and ‘how to make chloroform’. A photo was found on Casey’s ex-boyfriends’ computer which has a man leaning over to give a woman a kiss with the caption, ‘Win her over with Chloroform.’ Cindy testified that her family buried their pets in blankets and plastic bags.
Even though most believe Casey is guilty she was found not guilty of murder. It was later revealed that Casey had Googled ‘foolproof suffocation’ on the last day Caylee was seen alive. This detail wasn’t used as evidence at the trial.
