OCtober Days 8&9 - Personality & Inventory
Days 8&9 together just happened to work perfectly for me since Caylen's inventory has a lot of relevance to his personality.
First thing you need to know about Caylen, is that he is an incredibly talented mage. Arguably the best there is! He is also a respected strategist, and an accomplished General on the battlefield.
The second thing you need to know is that he is one cocky SOB. He knows how good he is, and isn't afraid to make sure you know too. He only gets away with it, because nobody can reasonably argue against him. (His right hand Eason does his best to keep Caylen in line, but even he can only do so much.)
The third and final thing you need to know about Caylen is, he is a terrible flirt. In all sense of the word. His pick up lines are the equivalent of "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?" Just ask Eason how many times he's been punched or slapped by offended noble ladies.
Now, how does his inventory come into play? Well, as I mentioned, despite his occasionally problematic personality outside of work, when it comes to magecraft and actual work, Caylen has his ducks in a row (honestly, kind of jealous) and actually takes his work very seriously. He's always thinking about what comes next; training with his troops on perfecting techniques and formations, practicing with magic, ever seeking to improve, or inspecting and repairing his kit. It should then come as no surprise that every piece of jewellery he wears is enchanted (which, he obviously did himself) with some form of minor defensive spell, or power boost spell. That one time he almost got shot in the head by an arrow was one time too many for him to leave his own head not properly defended.
Caylen is also a skilled swordsman, despite specializing in magic. Though no one can ever recall a time they've seen him use the sword he always carries. The truth is that the sword is cursed, and it's a mystery as to what exactly the curse is, or how it came into Caylen's possession, even to Eason. Caylen refuses to tell him and always manages to change the subject whenever it's brought up in conversation.
And finally, he's left handed!
