"You're being weird." Jackie immediately started in on his older cousin as he entered the kitchen, eyeing her knowingly as he made for the fridge. He hadn't seen CC since before the masquerade ball (that he was so rudely told to stay behind for by Elijah), and had noticed a stark change in her demeanor that evening -- well, stark to him. "You're doin' this weird thing with your mouth and your teeth," smiling, "and you've only rolled your eyes at cousin Lonny like, three times. I've had to pick up your slack." Beer was taken from the door, popping the cap open on the edge of the counter before a sip was taken. "What's the deal then, hm? You got a gas leak or something you need me to take care of?"

“Wait, wait—lemme catch my breath.” Benito slowed to a stop, one hand catching the post of the fence that cut the boardwalk off from the sand while he tried to breathe through the burn in his chest. He'd been working longer hours since the disaster at the Heritage Vault, desperate for answers and clarity within a situation that had absolutely none. While he was essentially ignoring any invitation to socialize he couldn't deny that a run might have been just what he needed to reset his brain, clear his head. So, he took his neighbor up on her offer, stepping away from his office for just a bit to, hopefully, get a bit of a reset. "Mierda, it's fucking hot. And that's me sayin' it." This summer had been particularly brutal for Los Angeles, and normally the heat wasn't something that bothered him given where he'd grown up. Letting out a breath, Benito pulled his water bottle from his vest. "Hey, never asked what you ended up doin' after all the Heritage Vault chaos happened. Didn't see your car in the driveway when I got home early the next morning."
